Apple's New iPhone 4S Ad Is All About Siri

The voice recognition software that's been dubbed your "virtual assistant," who even has her own Tumblr dedicated to her humorous responses, is also the focus of the latest iPhone 4S ad that was released by Apple last night. Check it out below and tell us - what are some of the ways you've been using Siri?

The Latest Kindle Commercial Is Kind of Silly

When Amazon released its newest Kindle, a smart ad took direct aim at the iPad, highlighting the fact that you can read the Kindle in bright light with no glare. The commercial was effective because of its simplicity and humor. But now the latest Kindle ad, which just debuted, sort of takes the concept a little too far.

The new ad ad is clearly targeted at 20-somethings, and features a bunch of hip characters frolicking in the city/at the beach/during a sunset . . . while holding a Kindle. The addition of the ereader is almost comical; I watched it three times and giggled each time because no one actually behaves like that. To be fair, I love my Kindle and use it regularly, just not while running during sunset.

Too harsh? Watch it and judge for yourself after the break.

Motorola Xoom Super Bowl Ad Makes Fun of Apple

Next up in geeky Super Bowl commercials, the latest Motorola ad for its new Xoom tablet.

The commercial parodies Apple's old 1984 spot, depicting a bunch of stark, expressionless drones tethered to their iOS devices while the Xoom user enjoys full color . . . and flowers.

The full spot won't air until Sunday, but you can check out a short teaser of the upcoming ad after the break.

Sony Rags on Apple's Gaming Cred With New PSP Ad

Which portable gaming console you use is just a matter of preference. I have an iPhone, Nintendo DS, and PSP and find that my DS gets the lion's share of my attention. However, I won't be giving up Patapon and LittleBigPlanet on the PSP, or Plants vs. Zombies, and Words With Friends on my iPhone any time soon. For me, saying one is better than the other is tough since I go to different consoles for different types of games. However, Sony isn't afraid to take a swipe at Apple in its latest ad for the PSP.

In the new ad, Sony takes a direct shot at smartphone gaming, saying that the iPhone (or something resembling an iPhone) is for "texting your grandma and calling your girl," not for playing "big boy" games. I got quite a laugh out of the ad (the kid who stars in it has a huge personality) but wonder if any of you are still using your PSP, or agree with Sony when it says that mobile phones can't compare to the PSP's gaming ability? Check out the ad and tell me your thoughts about how PSP gaming stacks up to that of the iPhone when you read more.

Daily Tech: Is Verizon's New BB Curve Ad Too Sexist?

If you read between the lines on Verizon's pink BlackBerry Curve ad, you'll notice that they included all the typical sexist stereotypes to try and appeal to women. - Boing Boing

The Sony e-reader will be coming to Target stores Sept. 14. - CrunchGear

Allow me to go "clean up" my Facebook page. Why? Because a new study shows that a huge percentage of bosses screen potential candidates via their social networking profiles. - Switched

Not totally jazzed up about the new Nano 4G iPod but still searching for a new media player? Well here are some alternate suggestions. - Crave CNET

An HTC Touch HD - the entertainment-focused mobile handset - is already in the making! - Gizmodo

Who Wins: Microsoft's Seinfeld Ads or Apple's Mac vs. PC Ads?

Though the second Microsoft ad featuring Jerry Seinfeld is a lot funnier than the first, I can't help but feel that it's still lacking . . . direction? Humor? As a die-hard Seinfeld fan, I'm disappointed that these spots aren't as "Jerry" as his humor on the show was, and even more disappointed because I don't really know what Microsoft is trying to say.

Contrast that with their rival Apple, who've spun the Get a Mac ad campaign off the notion that Mac users are cool and PC users are, well, John Hodgman, and I have to call Apple as the winner again. I get the point, they don't meander, and they entertain me.

Now putting aside your preference for Apple or Microsoft, tell me, which ads do you like more?

The Windows and Mac Guys in '96

This ad totally cracks me up! Little did I know that the PC vs. Mac wars started long before the 21st century. I've got proof - this Windows vs. Mac ad from 1996! The descriptions of each one are worth zooming your eyes in to read, for example "The Mac Addict," it says: "The casual 'Seinfeld cut' is in. Of course, Jerry would never use a PC." I can't even imagine who would be their celebrity poster boy for Apple today. . . John Mayer perhaps? Did you know that the latest PC guy is really a Mac user? Oh the drama!

Source

As some of these ads suggest, it was the "cool" thing to do; even doctors endorsed certain brands of cigs! And so, without reluctance, advertisers did what they do best. . .

Everex Cloudbook: Your MacBook Air Alternative

It seems like you guys are torn about the MacBook Air - from the comments on the Air posts, a lot of you love it but wouldn't or couldn't spend over $1800 on it. If that's the case, the Everex CloudBook may be the answer for those of you who like the size and convenience of the Air, but not the price. Everex's machine measures nine inches and weighs two pounds, has 30GB of space and a battery that lasts up to five hours. And it only costs $400! It's supposed to be available by February 15th, at Walmart.com and ZaReason.com.

No, I admit, it is not quite sexy enough to warrant a 3-girls-on-one-machine throwdown, but you can toss that baby into your purse.
