Gold and Gold for US:
US Gymnasts Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson won gold and silver in the women's all-around competition. Liukin held back tears until she was atop the winner's podium and the national anthem played. She said, "standing on the podium and hearing `Olympic champion' next to my name was a dream come true." She's the second US gymnast to win the title in a row. Meanwhile, Michael Phelps continues on his quest to grab gold in all of his events, winning the 200m individual medley. Find more pictures of the events below.
Bystanders Lift Bus Off Trapped Woman:
Dozens of onlookers acted quickly to lift a 5-ton bus off of a pregnant woman trapped underneath. The woman was seven months pregnant at the time of the accident. Despite the crowd's quick action, the baby was saved, though the woman was not. The baby is still in critical condition.

Diplomatic Efforts For Georgia:
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived in Georgia as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at easing the crisis. Russia still has control of the Georgian town of Gori, and Bush has condemned "bullying" by Russia. Russia in turn is concerned whether the aid being offered by the US is military or humanitarian in nature.

Bin Laden Driver Sentenced:
A panel of military officers have sentenced the convicted former driver of Osama bin Laden to five and a half years in prison. Ignoring the prosecution's pleas for a strict sentence, the 66 month decision means that the first detainee convicted of a war crime in court could complete his punishment by the end of the year. The military judge said he had already planned to give credit for the 61 months the detainee has already served.

13 Dead in Texas Bus Crash:
A charter bus carrying 55 church members rolled on its side killing 13 instantly and sending 24 to the hospital. A blown tire caused the bus to run off a highway overpass. The passengers had been on their way to a religious festival honoring the Virgin Mary.

Iraq Proposes Timetable:
Iraqi negotiators have decided on October, 2010, as the deadline when combat troops will have left the country. US troops will begin to withdraw from the streets in the middle of next year, and be gone by 2010, though some support units would stay on. If agreed upon by President Bush, the schedule will be close to the proposal of Barack Obama.

Relationship Protocol: Have You Ever Accidentally Injured Each Other?

When you're a kid, getting hurt is inevitable; you run, jump, fight with your siblings and wrestle with your friends. As adults, our play is usually more relaxing and less agressive, but I'm sure most of us still engage in some roughhousing with our significant others every now and again.

Just like our parents warned us as children, as soon as people get rowdy someone's likely to get hurt. And the physically closer you are to someone, the more chances you'll have of accidentally injuring them. To me, the only thing worse than hurting myself is inadvertently hurting someone else, so tell me, have you or your significant other mistakenly injured the other when goofing around?

Real Bullets Used in French Military Demonstration Injuring 17

The French military accidentally used real bullets instead of blanks, during a demonstration this weekend, injuring 17 people, including three children.

The demonstration, intended to showcase hostage-freeing techniques, left a 3-year-old child in critical condition. Chief Bernard Lemaire said the soldier who fired the real bullets has been detained, as the apparent accident has not been ruled out as a criminal act. French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited victims at the Carcassonne hospital and promised punishment for the negligence.

In other French military news - Sarkozy now must face critics who claim he exchanged French independence for American domination by deciding to bring France back under NATO's unified military command, 42 years after Charles de Gaulle pulled France out of full participation. The decision also raises questions about France's attitude toward a unified European Union military policy, separate from NATO.

Should Europe embrace NATO as its military future or pursue an America-free defense policy? As for the bullet incident, I hope the victims in critical condition pull through and the cause of the accident is avoided in the future.

Do Tell: Do You Get Upset Over True Accidents?

Accidents happen, there's no real way to prevent them, but sometimes even though you know something was a mishap, you're still upset and angry. For example, if a friend were to spill red wine on your brand new sofa, of course you'd be flustered, maybe even irate, but what can you do - it was an accident! I've gotten better at accepting the unintentional, but sometimes it's easier said than done. So ladies, tell me, do you tend to get upset over true accidents?

Someone's Having a Bad Day

A security camera caught the following scene of some woman trying to get herself a drink at a restaurant. Little does she know, the machine has had one too many of its buttons pressed and its about ready to blow. As if dining in soiled clothing isn't uncomfortable and embarrassing enough, the woman hits the ground running - literally. Forget soda, someone deserves a stiff drink!

If you're accident prone, this post is for you! Since holiday parties are quickly filling up your calendars, chances are you're going to be drinking and socializing so here are some tips if you make a blunder or two this holiday season.

If you're invited to a holiday party, your host knows that accidents will happen, so don't beat yourself up if you spill your wine, drop hors d'oeuvres, or break a glass. Obviously be aware of your surroundings, but I'm sure your host has factored in a few party fouls here and there.
If you do happen to drop something, take responsibility for your actions without drawing too much attention to yourself. Quickly take your napkin and wipe up a spill or dash to the kitchen to grab some club soda if you get something on a carpet or sofa. If you break a plate or a glass, make sure to pick up all the pieces so no one cuts themselves. Your host will be busy enough as it is, so if you can take care of the mess on your own, I recommend doing so.
If you happen to do something embarrassing, like put your foot in your mouth or even call someone the wrong name, don't sweat it too much. You're only human, and people make mistakes. Chances are you'll be with someone who can correct you, so simply apologize and move on. Over thinking the situation will just make you feel worse.
If you trip and fall at a party, a common mistake, pick yourself up as gracefully as possible and laugh it off. You'll feel like the entire party saw you, but chances are it wasn't that big of a deal.

Sometimes the best part of attending a holiday party is gossiping with your friends the next day about all the shenanigans that went on so keep an easy going perspective and just have fun - tis the season! Cheers!
