Should A&F Be Selling Crack?

Parading around butt cleavage ain't no thang in Abercrombie & Fitch's book. It's like totally intentional, actually, so a Virginia Beach store manager ignored incoming customer complaints regarding a few of the posters with plumber's crack on display. Local law enforcement wasn't digging the low rise funk either, so they confiscated the posters and slapped an obscenity charge on the manager. A&F maintains that butt crack is where it's at, but what do you think: should the brand be allowed to smuggle in crack to sell clothes?

100 shirtless men descend on Abercrombie & Fitch. Sound like a dream? It was an Improv Everywhere skit to test how far they could infiltrate the "Shirtless Zone" that is A&F. I love when the guy with the gut hangs out with one of the buff shirtless models whose sole job is to stand outside and attract people. Do You Think Abercrombie & Fitch's Quarterly Is Too Racy?

Do you remember A&F's first quarterly from the Fall of 1997? The book was chock full with articles and photographs of young, good-looking, and fit male and female models wearing minimally-logoed Abercrombie & Fitch clothing. The book was incredibly controversial and according to Fashion Week Daily:

It was pulled from US stores in December 2003 after numerous boycotts from religious organizations and women's rights groups alleging its sexually explicit nature, promotion of alcohol abuse, and other cultural concerns.

Despite all the talk, the quarterly will be back this Spring, but only for London residents. Since A&F's clothes are geared toward the younger generation, I can see why so many people were up in arms. Of course the general public can turn a blind eye to such marketing techniques, but do you think A&F's message is age-appropriate? Do you think it promotes bad behavior?

Word of the Day: Frathole

We've spent a lot of time analyzing a particular genus of the species douchebag. He is the club-dwelling, Ed Hardy-wearing, faux-hawk sporting guy who inexplicably gets the babes (well, a certain variety of babe, who probably deserves him). I can't believe that when we tried to come up with a replacement term for douchebag, among the many terms we considered, we didn't include the awesome frathole. Want more info on this menace to womankind? Then read more.

So "frathole" is a portmanteau word made from combining "fraternity" and "asshole." The only difference in this iteration of douchebag is that he's more likely to be dressed in Abercrombie & Fitch oxford shirts untucked just so over loose jeans while inevitably sporting flip flops. And obviously, his habitat is a college campus or local beer joint. The other wonderful thing about having discovered the word frathole at this late date is all the words that are associated with it, including: fraternitool, fraterniture, frathoe, fratmosphere, and fratnanigans. Sample sentence: "The fratmosphere at Abercrombie & Fitch is oppressive."

Seattle University Targeted Theme Party

Glen Butterworth, assistant to the dean of students, is rapidly in danger of being dubbed "Public ~~enemy~~ douchebag #1" after warning Seattle University students that hosting a "Douchebag Party" to poke fun at frat (and sorority) culture on university campuses was in violation of the student code of conduct, falling under the category of "gender bias." The party invited men to wear popped collars, aviator shades and flip-flops (wait - no tribal tatts or fake tans?!) and the women to wear Abercrombie & Fitch clothing and to talk "incessantly" on their cell phones. This is much ado about nothing, if you asked me. In a patriarchal culture, sticks and stones may break ~~men's~~ douchebags' bones, but words will never hurt them.
