>> Woody Allen’s Manhattan and Diane Keaton in the '70s were Scott Sternberg's starting points for Boy. by Band of Outsiders Pre-Fall 2012. "I was re-watching Manhattan for, like, the 15th time, and that way of dressing that you see in Diane Keaton's character — corduroy suits, button-ups, a certain type of plaid, a high neck—just seemed really fresh, or close to it," Sternberg explained. "Certainly in need of an update, but the nice start of an idea about dressing for the fall." A ladybug print borrowed from a '40s archival piece was placed on a boiler suit, and the plaid dress at left was given a raw-edged hem.
90210 Style: Erin Silver
Microphone in hand, Erin Silver really knows how to hold a crowd's attention. It's not what she has to say, though, it's her fun and funky style. Her skirt, by Boy by Band of Outsiders, is the most fun, but so are her other pieces: white tee, sateen blazer, double-strand necklace — you get the idea. Finish it all off, like Silver, with strappy sandals.

Scott Sternberg on the Power of Living in LA and the Expansion of His Women's Collection
Scott Sternberg left his job as a Hollywood talent agent to start Band of Outsiders seven years ago, and in 2007 launched Boy., his menswear-inspired women's collection. The 35-year-old LA-based designer has no plans to stop growing — he aims to increase his business from $12 million to $40 million over the next few years through expanding Boy. (from two collections per year to four) and launching girl., a lower-priced, more feminine line.
Despite his fast rise through the fashion ranks (in 2009 he tied with Calvin Klein's Italo Zucchelli for the CFDA menswear designer of the year award), Sternberg is happy to skip out on New York's fashion scene in favor of living in Los Angeles, where he keeps out of the fray:
"If I was here in New York in this mix influenced by the same thing all these people are influenced by, the edge would be gone," he told the WSJ. "This [LA] bubble is vital to being able to do something that is not informed by fashion."

Scott Sternberg Has a Lower-Priced Women's Line in the Works
>> Seven years since quitting his job as a Hollywood agent at CAA to launch Band of Outsiders, Scott Sternberg is ready to transform his $12 million business into a $40 million one in the next three years.
To do that, he's in the midst of expanding Boy., his menswear-inspired women's collection launched in 2007, and he has a second women's collection, girl., a less expensive, more feminine line, in the works. He's also increasing the number of women's collections produced from two to four per year.

Tom Ford on what separates his fashion imagery from his directorial debut: "My fashion career has been very much about full frontal male and female nudity and sex. For me, A Single Man is about love and romance, and had there been a need for that kind of nudity, then sure - but there wasn't."
Oscar de la Renta might be working on a beauty deal to expand his brand into skin care and color cosmetics.

Scott Sternberg Turns His Polaroid Lens on Marisa Tomei for Boy Fall 2009
>> Every season, Scott Sternberg produces his lookbook with an impromptu shoot — no hair, no makeup, no lights — and an old Polaroid camera. In the past, he's photographed Michelle Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and Sarah Silverman, but for Fall 2009, he photographed Marisa Tomei last Thursday at the Chateau Marmont and Bar Marmont in Los Angeles, sneaking into the kitchen for a taste of the food and chatting on the telephone.
>> INSIDER WIRE —Scott Sternberg has photographed his Boy lookbook with Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams in the past; for Spring 2009, the Polaroids feature Sarah Silverman in Canter's Deli in LA, posing in fedora and coat with "really big buckets of pickles" or shirtdress and pumps with "vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles." Sternberg chose Silverman because she's "completely different from Kirsten Dunst. We thought it would be a good way to show how versatile the Boy pieces are." [Boy, The Moment]
