Happy National Proposal Day! Over the years we've seen some crazy proposals, since the most over-the-top public proposals usually end up going viral on social media and YouTube. While some go a bit too far (like the guy faking his death) and some fall flat (like that mall song fiasco), we've found the sweetest, most creative examples of groom hopefuls asking for their girlfriend's hand in marriage. From a movie trailer to a board game, check out our favorite proposals that we don't think any woman would turn down!
Happy National Proposal Day! And if my Facebook feed is any indication, I'm not surprised. Each engagement story is unique, from the location to the ring to the level of creativity, but when is a proposal too little or too much of a good thing? Well, let's look to Hollywood for answers, because if anyone knows how to do a proposal, then it's the masterminds behind romantic comedies, right? Or no? I'll let you decide. I've rounded up 10 proposal ideas from flicks funny, sweet, and sentimental, so tell me: are these down-on-one-knee moments worthy of the real world, or just the "reel" world?

This year, public marriage proposals took going down on one knee to a new level, with the exciting and emotional (and some cringe-inducing) moments going viral thanks to the nontraditional ways these fellas popped the question. Some of these proposals caught on camera are creative, some are shocking, but for the most part they all have happy endings. Now see the good, the bad, and the sad marriage proposals making the rounds in 2011!
We've been dating for two years and we talked about marriage numerous of times. We've gone ring shopping and even picked out the ring I want. I would jump for joy when he does propose to me! But, he ended up asking me at the wrong time and at the wrong place. We've been fighting all day and I was very upset, we went out for dinner and got back into my car. He asked me how he can cheer me up, and I said I don't know. I just want to go home because it's raining and it's gross outside. He then "gave" me the ring and said he's "returning the favor because I've asked him out in the first place."
I know he meant no harm and said that as a joke. But it was just the wrong timing. He didn't even have the decency to kneel down OR ask me properly like "will you marry me?" That got me even more upset, so I declined him. I thought he should understand that I wanted something more romantic. Not in my car, randomly, unplanned, at a crummy night where I've been crying all day.
Am I wrong to decline his proposal? I know he's going to propose to me again sometime down the road . . . properly. But I'm just so upset that he ruined the surprise for me.
Britanny Hillard was knocked off her feet when her now-fiancé, Cameron Humfleet, asked her to marry him. The 20-year-old from Kentucky literally fainted when her boyfriend popped the question. Cameron had organized a double surprise, first gathering all of her friends for a birthday party and then bringing her to the event blindfolded. But, the real shocker came next. He got down on one knee, and she quickly dropped to the floor. Fifteen minutes later, Cameron proposed again, and Britanny was able to actually say yes. It was all caught on tape, so check out the latest viral marriage proposal below!
So apparently you can find more than sex at Occupy Wall Street — you can find love and marriage, too! The demonstration took part in its first marriage proposal, and although we've seen a lot of public proposals caught on camera, this one's pretty cute. To ask for his girlfriend's hand, the proposer uses the cause's "people's microphone," which was created out of necessity when electronic amplification was banned. It involves the speaker yelling out short phrases that are then repeated by the crowd. Watch the cute proposal now, and see how she responds to "will you occupy my life?"
A cute proposal aired yesterday morning on the Today show, and it wasn't shot by your typical wedding photographer, it was actually captured by a former paparazzo. It makes sense that the same stealthy photography skills honed by the paparazzi for celebrities would come in handy for snapping a proposal without the bride-to-be becoming suspicious.
And while it's one thing to have pretty engagement photos, it's even more romantic to have that emotional moment of saying yes always captured by camera — especially when it's all such a blur! My own fiancé had one of my closest friends hiding with a camera in hand when he popped the question, and I'm so happy I can see it all again. See some other heartfelt proposals snapped by paparazzi-like photographers now!
We knew that Michael Stagliano's partner and ex-fiancée, Holly Durst, is engaged to fellow Bachelor Pad contestant Blake Julian, but last night we got to see the proposal video along with all the other contestants and a studio audience. The only person who wasn't in the know? Michael, who was behind the stage and kept completely in the dark until being told with a camera in his face. Stay classy, Holly and Blake.
Watch the video of the proposal above, featuring Blake donning his signature Cheshire Cat grin and '80s-party-ready v-neck/plaid blazer combo as he and Holly enjoy a romantic, totally-not-staged date in a meadow on the top of a hill at sunset, with just the two of them — and an ABC camera crew.
And see how some of the pad's castoffs reacted to the proposal.
Our thoughts exactly. Now watch poor Michael get blindsided by a smirky-faced Blake and his ex-fiancée Holly's engagement news.
