Are You Affectionate With Your Family?

Liv and Steven Tyler enjoyed an evening of father-daughter bonding last night at the Super premiere.

Liv and Steven Tyler enjoyed an evening of father-daughter bonding last night at the Super premiere. The cameras caught the pair engaging in some red carpet PDA. The hand-on-face closeness might induce a level of discomfort familiar from Angelina Jolie's infamous kiss with and profession of love for her brother at the 2000 Oscars. Still, touchy-feely relatives could argue anyone who objects to innocent family love is the one with the issues.

You might not take showing your affection this far, but is your family the type to hug, kiss, and maybe cuddle on the couch well past childhood? Or do you have a more hands-off relationship with your parents, siblings, and other family members?

Calista and Harrison Share a Coffee Date and a Kiss

Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford stopped at a cafe in LA on Thursday and showed some PDA over coffee.

Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford stopped at a cafe in LA on Thursday and showed some PDA over coffee. The couple, who tied the knot last Summer after nearly a decade together, are clearly still going strong. Their wedding was only a few short months before Harrison had to hit the promotional trail for his movie Morning Glory, but it looks like the sweet duo are enjoying time at home together now that he has a break and when she's free from filming Brothers and Sisters. Harrison will be back on the road this Summer, though, when his action-packed blockbuster with Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde, Cowboys & Aliens, hits the big screen.

Do You Limit PDA in Front of the Kids?

It's one thing to give your loved one kisses hello and goodbye each day, but another to turn them into full-on movie-style embraces.

It's one thing to give your loved one kisses hello and goodbye each day, but another to turn them into full-on movie-style embraces. Couples trying to recapture some of their pre-children friskiness often find themselves facing embarrassed tots when they hug, kiss, or give each other a pat on the rear – and I'm not even talking about instances when the kids walk in on them.

While some couples try to keep their love life hidden behind closed doors, others are happy to showcase it for the world – including their children – to see. LilSugar readers have made it clear that they see nothing wrong with walking around in the buff in front of their kids, but how much PDA do you engage in when they are present?

Ryan Phillippe and Amanda Seyfried had a PDA-filled afternoon in LA today. Ryan stroked Amanda's legs and held her hands between sips of coffee before she wrapped herself around him for a ride on his motorcycle. The happy couple have been easing their way into the public eye, including another day date earlier in the week. Many of you were surprised that Ryan and Amanda's Halloween love match has lasted this long, but the 11-year age difference doesn't seem to have gotten in the way of their romance. The two both have movies coming out in March, Amanda's Red Riding Hood and Ryan's The Lincoln Lawyer, so we'll see if their love can last through all the necessary promotional travel duties.

Ryan Phillippe gave Amanda Seyfried a big hug when he stopped by the set of Now yesterday in LA. He's been busy jetting between the West Coast and Michigan lately to work on Setup, leaving Amanda free to focus on her steamy shoots with Justin Timberlake. Ryan, though, appears to be Amanda's real-life leading man. The pair were first spotted together at Kate Hudson's Halloween party and have since taken their romance public with concert dates and shopping trips. Ryan's moving on with his personal business after his ex Reese Witherspoon announced her engagement, and we're curious what you think of his dating Amanda. So, tell us what you make of their PDA — super sweet or still surprising?

Tweeting Your Partner Is a New Form of PDA

Ashton Kutcher has admitted that he tweets wife Demi Moore even when she's sitting right next to him.

Ashton Kutcher has admitted that he tweets wife Demi Moore even when she's sitting right next to him. It's not because he's giving her the silent treatment or because he's lazy. Ashton says he's simply engaging in a modern form of PDA. He recently told a tech conference:

"A lot of times my wife and I sit across from each other and tweet, it's a little bizarre. It's the same reason why you send roses to a woman at work. Sometimes people like to be adored in public."

For fun, let's examine the pros and cons of receiving a tweet rather than roses:

Pros:

  • A tweet requires thought, while roses just require a credit card.
  • A tweet is free, while roses can be seen as throwing money at a problem.
  • Only your followers see a tweet, while roses attract the eyes and whispers of the office.

Cons:

  • Couples who broadcast love on social networks are often unfriended or hidden.
  • You can enjoy the sight and smell of roses much longer than 140 characters.
  • You can write a private note on a card that comes with the flowers.

If the goal is public adoration, maybe the best option is to send flowers and then tweet about how you sent your girlfriend flowers. But if you had to choose, which would you prefer?

Mickey Goes High-Tech With Helpful Park PDA

On a recent trip to the happiest place on Earth, I noticed that a ton of kids were running around the park with their own toy PDAs.

On a recent trip to the happiest place on Earth, I noticed that a ton of kids were running around the park with their own toy PDAs. The geek in me was elated, but I wanted to get down to the facts: why were these toys so popular, and what did they do? I found my answer at one of the many gift shops that dot the Disneyland landscape — Mickey's Personal Disney Assistant ($10) was not only a fun, high-tech toy, but it served a pretty helpful purpose as well.

The Micky PDA includes a FastPass alarm (so you know when to head back to take your place in line), a character autograph tracker, a customized trip diary, a space for vacation-related phone numbers, addresses, and hotel info, and best of all — a park scavenger hunt for both Disneyland and Disney World to keep the kids on the lookout for items all around the park. Not only is this PDA perfect for getting your kids prepped for the tech world we live in today, but it will keep them occupied and involved in your family vacay. Give your kids a job — have them monitor how long they have to wait to get on the Indiana Jones ride, or help them find different characters to mark off their autograph list. It's the perfect tech toy to tote along on your trip to Disneyland this Summer, and although I haven't been able to track down a Mickey PDA online, there's plenty to go around inside Disneyland. I may have to get one for myself!

The 3 Rules of PDA Etiquette

Here's a post from OnSugar blog My DISFunkshion.

Here's a post from OnSugar blog My DISFunkshion.

PDA — Public Display of Affection. We have all seen it. Some of us may have even participated in it. I even let out the occasional "aww" when I see a couple that is clearly into one another.

But, I am also sure that we have all seen that couple who just makes even that simplest gestures of affection seem grotesque. I am all for love and I do understand that people want to show the world how much they care about a person.

However, some folks need to be aware that everyone is not okay with witnessing excessive kissing and heavy petting in a public setting.

So, what is okay you ask?

British Psychologist Says, "Put Down the BlackBerry."

Bad news for CrackBerry addicts: after conducting a research study, a British occupational psychologist says constantly checking your BlackBerry or other PDA increases stress levels and decreases productivity.

Bad news for CrackBerry addicts: after conducting a research study, a British occupational psychologist says constantly checking your BlackBerry or other PDA increases stress levels and decreases productivity. The study followed a group of employees, categorizing them as either high-frequency and low-frequency PDA users; high-frequency was defined as users who were constantly tethered to their devices; users were labeled low-frequency if they set aside specific times to check their email and respond to messages.

The study also found that high-frequency users also showed animosity toward their gadgets. The psychologist even mentioned one story he heard about a stressed-out user flushing their BlackBerry down the toilet. (Does that really happen?) He then says best way to remedy the burnout is for employers to encourage specific time limits for PDA usage and email responses to keep employees from experiencing tech burnout.

Surprised? I'm not, and I feel like we've heard this story before. But the constant reinforcement serves as a reminder to watch how much time you're spending with your work outside of work. Perhaps a few smartphone-free hours can do all of us (and our sanity!) some good.

PDAs — Do or Don't

Here's a poll from OnSugar blog Rantings of a Single Girl.

Here's a poll from OnSugar blog Rantings of a Single Girl.

I've never been one for PDAs. There is just something about seeing a couple making out in public that makes my stomach turn. Literally.

I'm not adverse to all kinds of affection in public. Hand holding is fine. It is kind of sweet actually. A quick peck on the cheek or lips? Nothing wrong with that. An arm around your sweetie at the movies or a concert? I'm fine with that.

I've just never understood why the world needs to see a couple French kissing or grinding on each other in public. That has always struck me as something personal. Something that should be reserved for behind closed doors.

So I guess you could say I'm adverse to extreme PDAs. And I seem to see more and more PDAs these days. I guess as sexuality becomes more open and out-there these days, I should expect to see more PDAs. I'm afraid making out in public is becoming more and more socially acceptable . . . and I'm not sure I like it.

How do you feel about extreme PDAs? A do or don't?
