Back-to-School Geek Style: Dress Like Mister Rogers

I grew up watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood every morning.

I grew up watching Mister Rogers' Neighborhood every morning. And, honestly, I only remember feeling extremely resentful that I had to get dressed for school while, in Mister Rogers's universe, he was returning home from work to play. The start of every show, he routinely dresses down to his legit indoor outfit, which always includes a colorful cardigan and a pair of Keds. Now it's back-to-school season, and you can let the best of Mister Rogers's fabulously geeky style inspire your wardrobe. Yes, Mister Rogers, I would and could be your neighbor.

From left column to right: Aubin & Wills Muscatel Merino Wool Cardigan ($140), American Apparel Flat Edge Leather Belt ($34), Keds Champion Navy Canvas Shoes ($40), John Patrick Organics Raw Hem Oxford Shirt ($240), Adriano Goldschmied Brown Cigarette Leg Corduroy Pants ($145).

Mr. Rogers dedicated his life to the provision of wholesome programming to educate young people, inspire their imaginations, and foster a healthy curiosity of the world around them.

Mr. Rogers dedicated his life to the provision of wholesome programming to educate young people, inspire their imaginations, and foster a healthy curiosity of the world around them. Enter Jimmy Kimmel. His curiosity stays on one track and one track only — the track of innuendo. He took old clips of everyone's favorite neighbor and "freshened" them up a bit by adding a few too many censors. Before long, our trusty imaginations take over . . .

I used to look forward to the daily puppet shows on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

I used to look forward to the daily puppet shows on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." They were off the hook. Now that I'm older, I can't help but wonder about the ritualistic behavior the man demonstrated at the beginning and end of every show. Mr. Rogers was on the air for just under 40 years and he never changed the routine! Check out this clip and ask yourself: was Mr. Rogers crazy or cool?
