Get to Know America's Youngest Female Billionaire

Bloomberg's Billionaires Index has been unearthing a lot of secretive wealthy people lately, including In-N-Out's 30-year-old president and owner, Lynsi Torres.

Bloomberg's Billionaires Index has been unearthing a lot of secretive wealthy people lately, including In-N-Out's 30-year-old president and owner, Lynsi Torres. The burger chain, which has about 280 stores, is worth an estimated $1.1 billion. Here are some facts about Torres:

  • Torres currently has half ownership of the company, but will take full control when she turns 35.
  • Her grandparents, Harry and Esther Snyder, started the original In-N-Out hamburger stand in 1948.
  • She became the sole heir of the company after a series of family deaths. After her grandfather passed away, her Uncle Rich took over, but Rich died in a plane crash when he was 41. Torres's father then took over, but died from a prescription overdose in 1999 at age 49. Her grandmother then took over the chain and left Lynsi Torres as the sole heir to the burger chain.
  • Torres has very little management training and she doesn't have a college degree.
  • The burger chain heir has a love for drag racing and is currently married to a race-car driver, her third marriage so far.
  • She bought a house last year worth $17.4 million that comes with seven bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a pool, a tennis court, and more.

In-N-Out Burger Affirms It's Expanding — to Texas

Is In-N-Out, the cult California burger chain lauded by the likes of David Chang and Peter Meehan, finally becoming a national standby?

Is In-N-Out, the cult California burger chain lauded by the likes of David Chang and Peter Meehan, finally becoming a national standby? Well, while the hamburger chain isn't expanding to the Eastern Seaboard just yet — it has unveiled plans to open in Texas.

D Magazine first broke the news that In-N-Out would be opening its first Lone Star location in Garland, a suburb of Dallas. The Irvine, CA-based fast food chain is known for its not-so-secret basic menu and fresh, high-quality ingredients; it holds the cachet of Manhattan's famed Shake Shack, only with the efficiency of a McDonald's. Yet the family-owned business, which doesn't even accept franchisees, has been reluctant to expand beyond the West Coast. According to Carl Van Fleet, In-N-Out's Vice President of Planning and Development, the company is building a new meat facility to service its Texas locations.

Van Fleet also told Eater that while opening dates have yet to be determined, "We continue to work on a number of site opportunities in the DFW market." I'm shocked that the chain is expanding to Texas, although I think Whataburger could use some competition. What do you think of In-N-Out?

Today's 3 Best April Fools' Pranks

The definitive origin of April Fools' Day is disputed, but the most popular theory dates back to 16th century France.

The definitive origin of April Fools' Day is disputed, but the most popular theory dates back to 16th century France. In 1564, France reformed its calendar so the new year began Jan. 1. Some people refused to change with the calendar and continued to play pranks the last week of March during the old new year. Those who fell for them were called Poisson d’Avril, or April Fish, which today remains the French term for April Fools.

While the origin may be lost, the Internet has ensured its tradition is not. Businesses seem to play tricks best, as they've got the money to make it look real. Here are our three favorite April Fools' pranks from today.

Bieber or Die
Funny or Die's prank is one of those rare April Fools' jokes that you can enjoy even while knowing it's fake. Justin Bieber, the 16-year-old R&B star and teen heartthrob, announces he's bought Funny or Die. Meet Bieber or Die. Justin tells us how amazing it is to be rich, famous, and young. "I talk loudly in libraries," he says, "and I swim directly after I eat." Never mind Bieber or Die; I say viva la Bieber!
