Emeril Lagasse Cooks Up Game Show Pilot For CBS

Emeril Lagasse is back in a big way: Martha helped save his empire, and this Summer he'll return to the Food Network with Emeril's Fresh Food Fast on the brand-new Cooking Channel. On top of it all, we've just learned he'll be starring in a pilot for a new game show on CBS.

The still-untitled project is a hybrid cooking show and game show. For a prize, members of the studio audience will face off at the stove under the guidance of Emeril himself. According to Deadline, the pilot could potentially replace the CBS departing daytime soap As the World Turns.

Although his pork fat-and-garlic laden cooking isn't my favorite style, I'm happy to see that Emeril — one of the very first TV successes of his culinary generation — is returning to his roots. Would you tune in to watch this game show?

Emeril Hosts Atlantic City Stadium Show — Sort Of

Don't enjoy amateur cooks facing off on TV?

Don't enjoy amateur cooks facing off on TV? Maybe you'll have different sentiments if you're watching them in person. At least, that's what Emeril Lagasse is hoping as he launches his new Atlantic City game show: Taste of Emeril's Cooking Challenge. It begins Oct. 21 at Caesars Atlantic City, and will run several times a week through Nov. 12.

Each night, the casino show will choose six members from the audience to square off onstage at two cooking stations, first competing in two teams, then facing elimination until the last two standing face off to take home the prize. Emeril will appear via the big screen to offer taped commentary and critique. While he admits the casino show is risky, the veteran culinary personality said he was looking for the right show that could be marketed to audiences at a reasonable price.

Tickets are only $35 each, but for that amount, I'd still expect to see more than video footage of Emeril. What about you? Do you see the "interactive cooking competition" being a success?

Buzz In: What's Your Favorite Game Show of All Time?

While we've been busy trying to tackle all the awesome new series of the Fall, the networks are still adding fresh shows to their slates.

While we've been busy trying to tackle all the awesome new series of the Fall, the networks are still adding fresh shows to their slates. NBC's most recent pickup is a new game show called Perfect 10, where contestants are challenged to quickly finish regular household chores for a chance to win a million dollars. Sounds simple enough, but so did Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader.

Between Perfect 10 and the CBS reboot of Let's Make a Deal, it sounds like there will be plenty of new options for game show viewing this season. These days I can barely keep up with all of my favorite scripted shows, but I do catch an episode of Deal or No Deal every now and then. The Price is Right will also always hold a place in my heart — I was one of those kids who would be yelling "One dollar!" at the screen when I was home sick as a kid. What about you — what are some of your favorite game shows?

The Price Is Right Psych-Out

Someone didn't study The Price Is Right strategy book before appearing on the show. When it came time to participate in the price war, she failed to maximize her bid, and — omigod — she won! She won! She what? Jumped the gun! False alarm everyone. But the game's just begun . . .

Game Show Contestants Say the Darndest Things!

Remember the game show contestants who scored big thanks to dumb luck?

Remember the game show contestants who scored big thanks to dumb luck? Well, factor out the luck and all we had was a whole bunch of dumb — which is the case with the following vid. The contestants below were under cruel time constraints, so their thinking was probably rushed and compromised. But whatever. We'll still laugh, ridicule, and make fun of them anyway cuz Alabama is definitely not a city in the state of Georgia. If the contestant had a map, then maybe she'd know that fact. (Right, Miss Teen South Carolina?)

D'oh! Game Show Moments

When the clock is ticking and the cameras are rolling, the pressure to think quickly can make a contestant give the darndest answer, reveal a dirty little secret, or altogether blank out— on her husband's name.

The following game show moments are so funny, "I think I'll have to take a P," Chuck. Har, har, har! If you're in the mood for more, click here.

This actually looks fun.

This actually looks fun. In what I'll call the "Clear or No Clear" game, players must leap through a cut-out shape on a quickly approaching wall to the other side. If they don't make it to the other side, they will be shoved into a shallow pool of water. This might sound easy until you see the shapes they're supposed to jump through—I think only tiny contortionists could get through most of them!

Get Ready to Play Even More TV Game Shows

Whether it's because of the possible Hollywood writers' strike, the success of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?"

Whether it's because of the possible Hollywood writers' strike, the success of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" or something else, this television season is beginning to look like the Year of the Primetime Game Show. At the head of the trend is now-legendary reality producer Mark Burnett, but he's not the only one with game shows on the brain. Here's a sampling of the other game shows coming soon to a tube near you:

  • "Jingles" — The latest Burnett show to be announced, this series will challenge teams of players to write jingles for products. (Advertisers must be thrilled!) CBS has ordered eight episodes of "Jingles," and viewers will vote each week for which team's jingle should be in a real ad and which should get its writers sent home.
  • "Nothing But the Truth" — This Fox series, based on a wildly popular Colombian game show, will hook up contestants to a lie detector and make them answer questions about their lives. People who answer all 21 questions honestly will win $500,000, but they may also have to admit ridiculously embarrassing things about themselves. Is it better to get caught lying about cheating on your husband — or be honest, take the money and run?
  • "Amnesia" — Another Burnett show, this one tests contestants' memories of their own lives. OK, technically it's called "Amne$ia." Producers will talk to friends and family members of the contestant to research questions, then challenge the reliability of their memories of key people, places and things.
  • "My Dad is Better Than Your Dad" — Burnett's third new series is exactly what it sounds like: dads competing in a series of challenges, driven by what Burnett calls "the universally relatable concept of bragging that your dad is the best." So far, it sounds vaguely like a higher-stakes version of "Double Dare."

So, here's my question: Are there enough game show fans out there to support all these series?
