Milk and Cookies With Martha Stewart

Besides an assortment of savory bites and lots of meatballs, another thing I consumed in massive quantities at the Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival was cookies.

Besides an assortment of savory bites and lots of meatballs, another thing I consumed in massive quantities at the Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival was cookies. On Saturday morning, I gathered with eager kids and their attentive parents for an event entitled Milk and Cookies hosted by Martha Stewart. Over 15 of New York's top bakeries and pastry chefs set up tables with every type of cookie imaginable.

Guests were invited to enjoy as many cookies as they wanted and the Manhattan Milk Company poured a never-ending supply of milk. Stewart debuted her new cookie iPad app and was followed around by a video crew documenting the event. The best part of the soiree were the crafting tables where children could decorate and package cookies using Martha Stewart's craft tools.

For weeks I've been uninspired with the layout of my craft studio and wanted to add my personal touch without spending too much money. At first I wanted a wall of retro wallpaper but after reviewing the prices, I quickly changed my mind. If you type the words "craft studio" in the Google image search box, you will see plenty of inspiring studio images. Where do I begin? The colors! The layouts! The organization methods! The designs!

So to be ready in time for September, I chose a challenge: stripes! This is not for the faint of heart. It takes time, patience, and (gasp) math! I spent one night measuring the wall and trying different equations, until finally I just went for it. The outcome is a more colorful, inspiring room. I will style the room throughout the month with my creative projects!

Embroiderers Gone Wild!

It's no secret that the nation has caught the crafting bug, and the art of embroidery, once consigned to the spinsters and elderly of yesteryear, has been taken up by the hipsters and the cool kids.

Stop Everything and Watch a Cat Sew a Scrunchy!

Did I get your attention?!

Did I get your attention?! Good. I am breaking my rule of "videos longer than 3 minutes only on the weekend." CasaSugar sent this down the transom, and from the moment I laid eyes on cat paws using a sewing machine to sew a scrunchy (or "chou chou"), I was sold. Throw in some dance beats? Positively hooked. I feel like dancing, and crafting and meowing all at the same time. Wheeeee!
