Carnie Wilson's Weight Struggles Continue Even After Gastric Bypass

This may be dating me a little, but Wilson Philips was one of my favorite groups back in the '90s.

This may be dating me a little, but Wilson Philips was one of my favorite groups back in the '90s. One of the members, Carnie Wilson, publicly struggled with her weight, and in 1999, she weighed over 300 pounds before deciding to have gastric bypass surgery. The singer lost an amazing 150 pounds in 16 months, but keeping the weight off continued to be a struggle. Dr. Oz says that at least 15 percent of gastric bypass patients will gain all their weight back. That's because although the surgery decreases the size of a person's stomach, it doesn't deal with the emotional reasons and lifestyle choices that cause people to become overweight in the first place.

Carnie became pregnant with her first daughter, now 4 years old, and packed on 70 pounds during her pregnancy. She lost it over three years, but after her second pregnancy, Wilson has been unable to lose the extra 61 pounds she gained. After appearing on The Dr. Oz Show in the beginning of February, the mom of two was shocked to learn that being 5'3" and 218 pounds put her in the morbidly obese and prediabetic category. That was the supportive nudge Carnie needed to realize she has to stop making excuses about why she's gaining weight, and has to get serious about her health so she can be a positive role model for her daughters.

Bad For Women? Celebrity Weight Loss as Entertainment

In the latest issue of People, Kirstie Alley discusses her 83-pound weight gain in the aftermath of being a Jenny Craig spokesperson.

In the latest issue of People, Kirstie Alley discusses her 83-pound weight gain in the aftermath of being a Jenny Craig spokesperson. Maybe she felt upstaged by Valerie Bertinelli, or maybe the only way she can lose weight is to do it in the public eye. (FitSugar has the details on her diet.)

Who knows, but I had to stop and ask myself, when is this going to end? I'm totally bored of hearing about these former actresses' diets! If you're interested in a brief history of this trend, then read more

She Said It, We Didn't

"If I'm 205 today, that means I am up 70 pounds."

"If I'm 205 today, that means I am up 70 pounds."

— On Good Morning America, Carnie Wilson angrily disputed The National Enquirer's claim that she's gained 79 pounds, reports Us Magazine.

70 pounds, 79 pounds. . .does it really freaking matter? You probably have a friend who goes on and on about her diet, how much she has to lose, how her ass looks big in those jeans, etc.You put up with it because you love her, but you kinda wish she'd just eat that buttered roll and be done with it. Well, I feel that way about Carnie Wilson and the decade-long saga of her weight gain and then weight loss through gastric bypass surgery. Only, the difference is. . . I don't know her and I'm sick of hearing about it! There was a sweet lull (thank the gods!) when we didn't hear about her stomach and its size — for the record, it was the size of a Coke can — but here we go again! Sheesh, give it a rest. Is this her only career now? Didn't she used to sing?
