Before They Were Stars

My parents moved in college. Painfully, one Summer I had to go through all my adolescent memorabilia and clean house. I had years and years of fashion magazines and my mom was serious about downsizing seeing as how I didn't even have a bedroom to put my stuff in (boo).

My ADD went into full effect when I was cleaning out and I spent hours flipping through past issues of Vogue, W, Bazaar, The Face, ELLE and whatever else I consumed during my years of angst. Alas, fashion was/is my salvation so I could not part with these images. I decided to put my favorite ads and editorials in binders to preserve them.

Once in a while I flip through the binders to admire the pages of fashion circa 1990-2000. When supermodels reigned, Liz Tilberis was the Editor of Bazaar and grunge gave way to minimalism. Oh look, there's Diane Kruger modeling for Emanuel Ungaro before she was an actress, looking sultry as always. And Chloe Sevigny, right around her Kids debut, modeling for Miu Miu. The ever-evolving Drew also looking wonderfully alternative in a Miu Miu ad. Interesting how all three budding stars are Fab favorites.

Celebrity models are nothing new, but this is when it was.

Can you guess the identities of these future celebs? My fave is the young beauty on the right side of the top row. I haven't a clue why she's grinning in the school picture below, but she's got every reason to be grinning these days. She's a newly liberated mother with a career on the verge of being rediscovered. Oops...I think she just might do it again! Who is she? Giggle Girls, give it a guess!

Can you guess the identities of these future celebs? My fave is the young gal in the bottom row. She grew up to become a very generous Goodwill Ambassador later on in life, and is also known for an even more generous smile. There has been ongoing speculation concerning her (hush-hush) brush with collagen as an adult, but she seems genetically blessed in this early picture with a nice pucker. Who is she? My lips are sealed. Giggle Girls, give it a guess!

Can you guess the identities of these future celebs? My fave is the Annie look-alike in the bottom row. This child star maintained her curly locks into adulthood and they surprisingly served her well. She was cast as HBO's leading lady in the sexiest show on television.

School photographs. Oh, how they haunt us! And these celebs are no exception. Rapper Eminem is my fave. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?...because the boy in the photograph looks more like the leading character in Weird Al's White and Nerdy music video. Who would have predicted that Marshall Mathers would have a future in hip hop?
