Hillary Clinton Plays Coy on 2016 Plans

"I think Hillary will go down as one of the finest secretary of states we've had," President Obama told 60 Minutes recently — but might she have even bigger plans?

"I think Hillary will go down as one of the finest secretary of states we've had," President Obama told 60 Minutes recently — but might she have even bigger plans? Before America's top diplomat, Hillary Clinton, exits the state department for a much-deserved break from public service, she and the president sat down for the interview, which aired Sunday. In this clip, the two top Democrats praise each other for their hard work and discuss how they became close colleagues after a tough primary campaign in 2008.

Unsurprisingly, the topic of 2016 also came up. For his part, Obama reportedly said, "I was literally inaugurated four days ago. And you're talking about elections four years from now." Hillary, too, neglected to take the bait, but she did leave the option open. Hillary said, "You know, look, obviously the president and I care deeply about what's going to happen for our country in the future. And I don't think, you know, either he or I can make predictions about what's going to happen tomorrow or the next year." I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Angelina Jolie was on yesterday's 60 Minutes to speak about her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey.

Angelina Jolie was on yesterday's 60 Minutes to speak about her directorial debut In the Land of Blood and Honey. Conversation turned to her personal life, and Angelina revealed that she prefers staying home with the kids to filming — she and Brad Pitt famously hand off turns working on projects and watching their six children. Angelina also nearly broke down when speaking about her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. She said of Marcheline, "My mother was a full-time mother. She didn't have much of her own career, her own life, her own experiences. . . everything was for her children. I will never be as good a mother as she was. She was just grace incarnate. She was the most generous, loving – she's better than me."

Walter Isaacson's 60 Minutes interview aired on CBS last night, and while the interview was relatively short compared to the years of interview material he's amassed over the seven years he's been meeting with the Apple co-founder, it did reveal some interesting tidbits about Steve Jobs. Check out a few below, but stay tuned for more as we tear through our copy of the biography.

  • He invented something called "The Blue Box" that replicated the tones that phone companies use, and allow users to make free long distance phone calls.
  • When Steve Jobs was younger, he never wore shoes, never bathed, and had long hair. He was put on the night shift at Atari because he smelled so bad that people didn't want to work with him.
  • He was 25 when Apple was worth about 50 million dollars.
  • Steve Jobs lived in a "normal house on a normal street." There are no security gates or long driveways at his house because he said, "I did not want to live that nutso lavish lifestyle that other people live when they get rich."
  • When he and Steve Wozniak started Apple, he didn't know how to write code or build a computer. That was Woz's job.
  • According to Walter Isaacson, Steve was "not warm and fuzzy," and really wanted to "be with people who demand perfection."

Lara Logan Breaks Code of Silence by Sharing Her Cairo Sexual Assault Ordeal

As I watched Lara Logan's graphic 60 Minutes interview last night about the sexual assault she suffered in Cairo's Tahrir Square, it moved me that a seasoned journalist with significant security could so quickly become a victim of a brutal attack.

As I watched Lara Logan's graphic 60 Minutes interview last night about the sexual assault she suffered in Cairo's Tahrir Square, it moved me that a seasoned journalist with significant security could so quickly become a victim of a brutal attack. The 60 Minutes correspondent, who usually does the interviewing and reporting herself, switched roles last night, proving if it could happen to her, it could happen to anyone, while helping reduce the stigma surrounding discussions of sexual assault.

"One thing that I'm extremely proud of, that I didn't intend, is when my female colleagues stood up and said that I had broken the silence on what all of us have experienced, but never talk about," she said. "Women never complain about incidents of sexual violence, because you don't want someone to say, 'well women shouldn't be out there.'"

Lara explained that before her near-death encounter with Egypt's sexual harassment and assault epidemic, she had no idea Egyptian women are regularly molested in public. One survey found that two out of three Egyptian men admit to publicly harassing women. Lara wanted to add her voice to those who confront sexual violence. You can watch part of her interview below.

Americans Envy Europe's Vacation, Not Its Topless Beaches

With terror threats potentially making Americans wary of traveling to Europe, maybe it's time to bring European traditions stateside.

With terror threats potentially making Americans wary of traveling to Europe, maybe it's time to bring European traditions stateside. The new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll tells us which one to import first: longer vacations. The poll, which also declared Jennifer Aniston the world's most eligible single woman, ranked European traditions Americans would consider adopting.

Thirty percent of men and 41 percent of women dream of longer holidays, although only 9 percent of Americans would spend that time on a topless beach. At the bottom of the list: the great European tradition of extramarital affairs. Surprisingly, 0 percent of men (and 1 percent of women) said they want Americans to adopt a more lassez-faire attitude toward fidelity. Afternoon siestas have the support of 15 percent of Americans, while a royal family gets 6 percent.

If I could bring a little more European flavor to the US, I'd import longer vacations, a reluctance to leave your house in sweats, and high-speed trains. What European traditions would you like to adopt?
