Barack Obama hasn't even been sworn in yet, but some have already guessed that his days as president will be numbered to one term. According to a panel of New York Times White House reporters, if Obama's plan to save the economy doesn't work, he has little chance of winning a second term. In addition, the economy's demand for attention could likely cause Obama to abandon his campaign promises, like universal healthcare and environmental regulations, bringing down his popularity.
During the campaign, Obama's legion of supporters definitely had high expectation for real change. Still, I think many will maintain a little patience considering the onslaught of challenges facing the new president. It's probably way too early to ask, but do you think these reporters are right about Obama's high risk of losing in 2012?
Are You Ready For the Digital Television Changeover? In a last-ditch effort to ditch the digital conversion last week, the Consumers Union and President-elect Barack Obama pressed Congress to delay the change, which will effectively shut off any antenna-using TVs. The FCC chief, however, argued at CES that delaying that transition now would just create confusion for Americans, adding that a lot of time, effort, and money have gone into getting the nation ready to switch to digital by Feb. 17. Yesterday, hundreds gathered at the Capitol to get closer to a fake inauguration. Possibly not a terrible idea, considering it looked and sounded much like the real one will. Burris Cleared to Take Senate Seat The New York Times reports that Senate leaders have cleared the way for Ronald Burris to fill Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat. In a joint statement, Democratic senators Harry Reid and Dick Durbin granted the senator-designate title on Burris. Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who's accused of trying to sell that very seat. Reid and Durbin stated: "[B]arring objections from Senate Republicans, we expect Senator-designee Burris to be sworn in and formally seated later this week."
