Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, marked the beginning of Lent. Now I'm not too familiar with this Catholic practice, but I do know that Fat Tuesday is considered the last day one can commit a sin while Ash Wednesday signifies the start to a 40 day penance where one gives up a vice until Easter Sunday.
I've had friends give up chocolate, soda, even French fries for Lent, but tell me, what have you committed to expel from your life for the next 40 days?
Last night a grateful Barack and a stunning Michelle welcomed music legend Stevie Wonder to the White House to award him the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The president made it clear that awarding the prize to Stevie was not strictly business. He said: "I think it’s fair to say that had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me. We might not have married."
In fact, Barack and Michelle chose "You and I" by Stevie Wonder as their wedding song. Michelle pointed out that Stevie is doing a good job wooing the younger Obamas, too. The first lady said: "He recently performed with the Jonas Brothers, thrilling a new generation of young girls, including our own."
You can watch the award ceremony, and Stevie's performance from last night, tonight on PBS at 8 p.m. (EST). The Gershwin Prize goes to an artist whose career reflects lifetime achievement in promoting song as a vehicle of musical expression and cultural understanding. Thank you Stevie for sharing your talents with the world and bringing the loving first couple together years ago!
The outfit screams George Michael from Wham!'s early days. The voice? Well, it just screams, screeches, and annoys. Will this American Idol get through tonight? My eardrums are quivering with anticipation.
The other day a friend of mine complimented me, telling me that I looked good in the shade of pink I was wearing, and she caught me so off guard that I actually blushed! I've never considered myself shy, but I have to admit, receiving that accolade out of left field made me slightly uncomfortable. I know that a lot of people share my sentiment, so tell me where you stand on receiving compliments. Do they make you feel uncomfortable or do you easily accept praise?
Yet another 30 Rocker has taken on the Republicans. I almost hope Louisiana's governor, Bobby Jindal, stays in the spotlight so we can see more of Jack McBrayer's (aka Kenneth the page) imitation. (Besides, Jindal's exorcism story hasn't even hit the mainstream yet.) Check out "Jack McBrayer's response to the Internet response to the Republican response to the President's address to Congress" in this preview clip from Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
Last week I asked you all which was the worst of the seven deadly sins, and while greed was the clear winner, I wanted to revisit this topic just in case you are unaware of what these sins actually mean! To get a better understanding, start the slideshow.
