Michelle Obama's Many Thoughts
This week First Lady Michelle Obama invited us to the White House to discuss the Let's Move initiative and motherhood. We sat in the Old Family Dining Room and questioned Mrs. Obama on her clothes, toned arms, preferred snacks, and maintaining normalcy. She even revealed the reality TV show that she thinks is crazy! Check out the our favorite quotes from the event.

Sam Kass Takes Us on a Tour of the White House Gardens
After an intimate round table with Michelle Obama, we headed outside to the HealthierUS School Challenge Celebration, where we were given recipes form the White House and a tour of the gardens where Bo posed so perfectly with the first lady. White House chef Sam Kass got giddy when showing off purple lima beans, colorful peppers, and a growing fig tree.
Michelle Obama's Ideal Role Models For Sasha and Malia Are "Real People"
We were invited to the White House yesterday for a candid discussion with First Lady Michelle Obama. At the first-ever roundtable for women's online media outlets, the first lady discussed everything from her fitness routine to her fashion motto, and when we asked her whom she approves of as role models for Sasha and Malia, here's what she told us: "For me, role models are real people in my life who I actually know."
Michelle continued, "I think the girls, they're finding that the people in their lives — their dad, their niece, their cousins, my brother's kids — they look up to. I find kids are looking right in front of them. They don't view some old person in a book as a role model. My nephew just went to college, so now they're looking at, well, where is he going and why did he go there, and how did he get in there?" As for relationships, Michelle said her daughters look to the young women they know, explaining, "They're very fascinated by their relationships, and it's like, you have a boyfriend — what is that like?"
In addition to the extended family and friends, Michelle told us, "I hope I'm a role model for them." She said she values having her mother around, but in one way she's hoping to set a different example for Sasha and Malia. "I want my girls to see the model of a mother taking care of herself," she admitted, "because, quite frankly, my mother didn't do that. My mother was the traditional stay-at-home mom. She spent her days at our games and at the PTA, and cooking and doing everything. And the thought of her spending a dime on herself was just like, oh my goodness, why would I want to do that?"
The first lady also shared what she wants for her girls when they grow older: "I want them to be young women who understand that you can be educated, you can be smart, you can be pretty, you can have fun, you can sweat, you can run — and you have to do all of that to manage in this world. So I have to be that role model for them."
The First Lady's Hopes and Fears on Raising Her Daughters
Talk about an inspiration! We were invited to the White House to discuss the first lady's Let's Move campaign. Getting families off the couch and moving has been a passion of Michelle Obama's since her husband took office, and we've seen her leading children in group exercise programs around the country.
Throughout the conversation, Mrs. Obama opened up about life in the White House, her dreams for her daughters — Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10 — and the everyday parenting struggles she faces, including her fear about "mess[ing] them up." Keep reading to see what the first lady shared with us!
Are Barack and Michelle Obama Fans of the Kardashians?
Yesterday, PopSugar was invited to the White House for a candid roundtable conversation with First Lady Michelle Obama about her Let's Move campaign and what it's like to be a modern mom. Michelle Obama shared everything from her fashion motto to her first lady fitness routine during the discussion. Talk turned to any restrictions she and President Barack Obama put on their daughters, Sasha and Malia, in terms of what TV they are allowed to watch, and Michelle revealed that she tries to find the lessons in everything — even the Kardashians. Michelle said,

"Barack really thinks some of the Kardashian — when they watch that stuff — he doesn't like that as much. But I sort of feel like if we're talking about it — and I'm more concerned with how they take it in, what did you learn when you watched that? If they're learning the right lessons, like, that was crazy [laughter], then I'm OK. So it requires a lot — it is the reality of where they are."

The First Lady Dishes on Fitness, Motivation, and Her Cardio Playlist
Yesterday we were invited to discuss Let's Move with the first lady, and while learning about one of the passion projects close to Mrs. Obama's heart, we also learned how she stays motivated to keep fit and what's currently on her iPod.
With a morning start of 5 a.m., Michelle's first task of the day is email, although she isn't expecting responses back that early. Then depending on if Malia and Sasha are up, she is either working out or getting the girls ready for school. Exercising is a way of life for the President and the First Lady, so it's no surprise she explains that it keeps her balanced, even if "it's a daily struggle."
Michelle Obama Reveals Her Fashion Motto

In a round-table discussion on family and health at the White House yesterday, Michelle Obama revealed to Fab how she decides what to wear and if she ever feels fashion anxiety.
Wearing a pretty pink dress from Target, the first lady said, "My motto is I have to feel good in it; I have to wear what I love. I try to be thoughtful about spreading the wealth: young designers. Mixing things up is important to me. But my day-to-day wardrobe choices are very practical. I’m like, what’s the temperature? Am I going to be sitting on the grass? Will I be playing with kids — because I usually want to." As for her shopping habits, Obama admitted, "I don’t buy it if I don’t love it. Everything in my closet is something that I love so that I can make choices based on what makes sense, knowing that I’m going to love whatever it is."
What does one of the most stylish first ladies of our time say when it comes to fashion anxiety? "I don’t want to waste anxiety on something as limited as clothes. I’d rather be anxious over the issue, or worry about the remarks, or think about the veteran that I’m talking to and making sure I’m listening and paying attention; the clothes are just the secondary part or the third part of what is happening over the course of the day." Obama's secret to erasing that anxiety is simple: "If I’m comfortable in what I have on, that’s second nature, and then all my attention can go to the people in the room that I’m with at that time, and I don’t have to worry about whether something is riding up or whether my feet hurt."
Michelle Obama and Bo Sitting Pretty in the White House Garden

Today, we were fortunate enough to participate in a round table with the first lady to hear more about the Let's Move initiative and discuss motherhood issues for the modern mom. The event kicked off with a photo of Mrs. Obama and the adorable Bo. The first lady explained, "We get so many letters from kids, who want to hear about the garden, they want to see it, and they also want to see Bo. Bo is really the most popular. So we decided to do this official picture that we could send to them when they write in. And we've heard so many great stories from kids who've been inspired and doing things like changing the way their families do things. And those letters are always just a joy to get. So we want to have something a little more tangible than just a letter to give to kids, because often it's the visual thing that makes it real." Bo, who is apparently not dressing up for Halloween, was able to take this beautiful photo in only three clicks!

The Golden Globes Get Social and Gleeful on a Star Studded Night!
Last night's Golden Globes included exciting wins, funny jokes, and great looks. Ricky Gervais opened the show with a beer and some harsh jokes, but he also did a great job of introducing guests and keeping the show moving along. Early highlights of the evening included Christian Bale's win for The Fighter and a very touching speech by Glee's Chris Colfer. Annette Bening was thankful to her fabulous cast and called her onscreen partner Julianne Moore a "class act." She closed her speech with an adorable shout-out to her husband Warren Beatty, who won the Golden Globe for most promising actor in 1962.
Although The Tourist didn't take home any big awards, Johnny Depp got plenty of camera time, which we were thankful for. Also, throughout the night we saw Angelina fixing Brad's bow tie, applying a fresh coat of lipstick, and leaning back into her man's arms.
Natalie Portman took home the best actress award for Black Swan and thanked her parents, her fiancé and her costar Mila "sweet lips" Kunis. Matt Damon did his best Robert De Niro impressions when he presented him with the Cecil B. DeMille award. Michael Douglas received a standing ovation when he took the stage to present best drama. He was touched with the crowd and joked, "There's got to be an easier way to get a standing ovation. Thank you all very much. I'm really very, very happy to be here tonight."
Social Network took home top prizes including best drama, director, screenplay, and score. Check out all the winners here.
