Was Your Honeymoon Perfect or Problematic?

Over the years, I've heard many honeymoon horror stories, from missing flights to food poisoning, making even a well-intentioned, relaxing trip an adventure. Traveling to far-off destinations always has its risks, but it's especially discouraging when you're trying to have a blissful, romantic trip abroad. Whether it was lost baggage, a natural disaster, shoplifted goods, illnesses of an intimate nature, or even infidelity, did your honeymoon have some hiccups? Or did it go off without a hitch?

It was pretty awful. We were in Maui, in a non-air-conditioned condo during "the worst rain season in ten years". Sweaty, grumpy, and stuck to indoor activities most of the week.

We went to Portland, OR for our honeymoon and had a great time. I voted "perfect" because there were no disasters, but we did have a couple of glitches. One day we rented a car just so we could drive to the ocean - he had never seen the Pacific before. I don't like driving, especially in places I'm not familiar with (I'm a public-transportation kind of citygirl) but I had to because you had to be 25 to drive the rental (he was 21, I was 26) and then it turned out to be a cold, cloudy, drizzly day - we just just walked around the beach for a bit and then drove back to Portland. Other than that we had a very nice time!

We had spent nearly three weeks leisurely training around Europe before we got married so for the post-nuptuals we booked two days in a cabin in the woods -- with a two diamond (which would be about 1 Michelin star) restaurant on site. Beautiful. Except the MiL decided our wedding breakfast was a great time to tell the hubby that his childhood dog was ailing and needed to be put down forthwith. Things were pretty miserable in that wee woodsy cabin, let me tell you.... I'm not sure precisely what she was thinking -- she made the poor dog hang on another two months until we could get up there so the hubby could be present at the putting down, even though he had begged her to just do it and not leave pooch suffering. (They live nearly 8 hours away via car). The news could have waited another two days.

My husband lost his passport and spent the last day of our honeymoon driving to his country's consulate (a six hour trip) and back for an emergency passport. Though the passport official at his consulate was super understanding and waited long past closing hours for him to show up, and even drove him to a Wal-Mart to get the appropriate photos. I'm just glad we were in a state with a consulate--there are only two consulates in the entire U.S. for hubby's country, and if we were anywhere else we would have had to arrange travel to stop at a consulate an obtain the passport before flying home.

My boyfriend and I were on a cruise vacation with a couple on their honeymoon, who we met onboard. The wife had just discovered she was pregnant a couple weeks earlier and the husband had terrible motion sickness the whole time. They were miserable; we felt so bad for them!

We also went to Disney World. It was awesome! I mean, don't get me wrong - we thought of going to Italy, but decided to save the cash. It was fortuitous since Frank was laid off 2 months later. It was totally fun. We both have high energy, thrill seeking personalities. Disney was a good fit for us.

We went to a small-town ski resort during the off season, so it was a really beautiful setting... Except we went for a walk , my new husband got poison ivy on his leg... and then scratched under his waistband. Ouch! On top of that, I got a yeast infection, and when I went to the only store in town (a Walmart) at 10:15 at night, it was closed! So, as you can imagine, our honeymoon was relatively painful for both of us...

I work in a mall, and I really love it. I'm very attached to my register (i'm a cashier at a big chain store)! So after our wedding my husband said he had a surprise for me, he had organized a nice honeymoon that would fit our budget (I thought we had no money for it at all). He took me to the store, and all my coworkers were there, and there were stringers and music and drinks set out - everybody yelled 'surpriiiise' - it was really cool! The manager had set up an air mattress by my register, and then everyone left and I was so happy, it was really fun! At 1AM the cleaning crews left and we were finally alone, it was super romantic! We opened up a bottle of apple cider and I went to the produce section and got some strawberries. Then at 4AM the deliveries for the frozen aisle arrived, and we couldn't get back to sleep, so we just packed our stuff and went home. But we didn't even have to clean up, my friends took care of it in the morning! It was totally awesome.

We went to the coast and I got super sick. We had to leave early and I think my in-laws were a little irritated because they had prepaid for our room.

we went to Disney World this past January for our honeymoon. We had a great time even though they were hitting record low temperatures. We were cold, but happy.

Our 1st try at a honeymoon never happened...I had a temperature of 103 at the airport and couldn't possibly get on the plane! Our "redo" started off better but on the morning of the 2nd day, a beer bottle rolled out of our mini freeze, shattered on the marble floor, and a large piece of glass got lodged in my knee. Finding a medic on the Dominican Republic to treat me wasn't easy- I was SO not leaving the resort and those medics are used to dealing with just sunburn. Finally found one- 12 stitches (both internal & external) later...but the vacation was pretty ick after that! (no swimming, anxious over the terrible looking stitch job and random pills they tried to make me take). Needless to say, I was counting down the days until we went back to the states so I could see a real doctor.
