It's the 38th annual Earth Day today, a time where you'll hear all kinds of advice for what you should do to keep the planet clean.
But if you're not Al Gore, you already do your part to reduce, reuse and recycle, and you don't feel like getting a whole list of items added to your to dos, how about a list of "to don'ts?" I found a list perfect for those who want to make a difference purely based on what they don't do.
Check out the top five:
- Use your leaf blower to dust off the driveway.
- Drink FIJI Water . . . unless you actually live in FIJI.
- Torch a couple luxury homes in the swank Seattle suburb of Woodinville.
- Feed a cow beans.
- Make a donation to "Global Warming is Bogus."
But the capper "don't" of the list, the one thing you're not supposed to do?
"Do nothing at all."
What do you think? Are you planning to launch a big eco-project today or do you not see what the big hoopla is, and think every day should be Earth Day? Do you question the whole environmental movement and think green is just the new trend?
We've been looking at environmental issues all month. Check out all of our Daily Planet coverage if you need inspiration.

I was trying to decide what I was gonna do for Earth Day. I'd plant a tree, but I just planted a plum tree 3 days ago. I decided that I'll more than likely have a picnic at a local park, and when we're done eating, we'll pick up the trash in the park. I havn't sent off for my free trees from Arbor Day this month, otherwise I'd load up my brother's lawn with trees. He just had a house built, so he needs to replace all the trees the developers tore down to build. I've been doing Earth Day activities, almost daily, since November. Planted a couple flower gardens and a veggie garden, and encouraged my parents to help their friends plant a big garden on their land in the country. I feel satisfied with my part.
1Whats wrong with Fiji water??
2Well I already recycle, pick up litter and take public transit. I don't have a garden this year because I am moving but I do plan on planting some bushes in my in laws back yard. Other then my regular routine I have no special plans for Earth day, mainly because people should treat everyday like Earth day.
3I am working, I know it's exciting but I just couldn't help myself. It's Earth Day after all.
4I'm with cine, every day should be earth day. Group hug
5I was wondering the same thin Cabaker.
6I think it's the whole needless plastic bottles in landfills, plus the oil it takes to get the water from Fiji to the U.S.
7Whatever. I like Fiji water. It probably comes from NJ anyways... But its pretty and square.
8Hey! I changed my avatar because I thought we weren't being allowed to post! It looks like you have been! I thought we were in big trouble in little china!
9I have been looking for a good water bottle that I can use at the gym and just when I go around doing errands but I can't find one I like yet... The big Nalgenes are too big, and I can't find a good 16oz Nalgene.
10" Nah. Green-shmeeen. It's just another way to guilt us or sell junk."
Hahaha
11I decided to talk a walk in the wilderness, So I went to the local golf course....
12I am totally bummed! I gave in too quick! Well considering that I had already changed mine last night. I hope you feel like I did participate.
13Yeah, I agree with cine. I think everyday is earth day.
14Harts you can always change it back if you want!
15I like Smartwater and Trinity. And there is one other but I can't remember the name. Dagnabit!
16I love vitamin water but it has too many calories!
I'd rather have that than other flavored waters though because I hate that artificial sweetner taste!
17HOw many cals does it have cab? I don't have a bottle or I'd look for myself.
18Typically I drink out of the tap. That's just me though..
Let's see, my family plants trees every year. Just not on this exact day.
19as a resident of a galaxy far, far away, i do not celebrate earth day. it is the year 2108 on my planet. and i don't want to ruin anyone's fun and righteous plans for this special day, but earth is destroyed by the rogue asteroid "Pizza Roll 19" in the year 2023.
20I celebrate Earth Day every day. Much to the annoyance of my friends & family.
Oh & Citizen, there are other environmentalists other than Al Gore...
cabaker- Have you looked into those Sig bottles? They are made of some kind of metal
21Sig? I never heard of them?? do you have a link??
Harts - they have 150 cals per bottle. I drink no soda, so I figure I can have a VitaminWater every now and again as a treat...
Still 150 cals is a lot...
22Well Im starting to plant my garden and Im thinking about planting a cherry blossom ....
23
Yesteryear I said I was sorry!
24OH! That sounds nice Betty!
We planted a bunch of fruit trees in front of our house the year before last. Little one....they are still little. Growing, but still little.
25I read somewhere recently that those nalgene bottles actually are dangerous!

27Crap, I can't think of the trees we get from my Dad's work. I think they might be evergreens? That doesn't sound right though.
The company practices "Earth Day" every day.

They are notorious for holding little ceremonies that get the elementary children involved in planting trees on their school grounds, and of course, they all get trees to take home for themselves.
28Oh that's cute cabaker27, cine_lover & syako. Did you guys put on the same shirt this morning too? LOL!
29There are lots of evergreens. Does the tree stay green all year?
Evergreens don't lose their leaves. They bud in the spring, but they wont lose their leaves or needles.
Spruce, pinion, anything with a needle is an evergreen.
30I'm so happy I never used a nalgene bottle!
The articles I have seen suggest that by exposing your bottle to extreme conditions: boiling water or freezing water, that causes particles of plastic neoprene to come off into the water you will drink which then in turn get into your body and cause "issues."
31I think they're evergreens. The one's we planted most recently are still very small, and I think only about 25 of the 50 or so we did in our little side spot of woods will make it.
32what?!?! I didnt know that applied to Nalgenes! What if you never freese the water or boil it? Are you ok then?
33I'm not sure.. The articles I read are conflicting, and of course not everyone agrees about this new finding. I would think that if you don't do anything absurd to it you should be better off than those who put boiling water in them or freeze the bottles at night.
34Hmm.. let me look for a link...
35my link to nalgene's response is about on comment 27
36about = above
37Laura some evergreens like cedars and junipers don't like a lot of water.
38Spruce and austians LOVE water, lots.
They(Nalgene) basically say that the chemicals are present, but at a low level, and you should technically be fine according to the current research. But they are still looking in to it. FDA says no ban should be issued at this time.
39oops Austrians
40Whoa! I'm glad I'm don't own stock in Nalgene!
41Laura, It could also be your soil.
42I only say that some will survive there because of the nature of the "woods". I live in a very residential area right now, and the patch of "woods" is about four feet wide that separates the neighbor's house from our yard. There are kids, dogs, and random animals who stomp around there, so it's not guaranteed they'll live. That's why we plant so many.
43here ya go http://www.mysigg.com/
44I'm looking at these Sigg bottles now, they are pretty sweet!
45We planted about 20 Austrians and the deer ate them all. Then we planted more Austrians and other kinds, evergreens, aspens, a maple by our house and a few cottonwoods. The deer either were eating them or rubbing their antlers (sraping the velvet off). We made up this egg stuff and started spraying them. That works! But we couldn't spray all the trees. So most we put a little fence around and others we spray. We also have some plums (wild) and we spray those too.
46I put about 200 plants/bulbs in the my yard over the weekend, does that count?!? Now I just have to keep them alive.
47I am actually going out of my way to do more than nothing, no carpooling, I just threw away a couple of diet pepsi cans, ate a baby seal for lunch (chewy), which gave me gas, and I plan on burning some coal tonight for the heck of it.
48I saw something about the Plastic bottles on TV sometime this week, and it stated that only newborns, infants, and toddlers were EXTREMELY susceptible to the effects of PB-7, which is the type of plastic most Nalgene style bottles are made in.
The best kind of drink container to use is aluminum, because it doesn't grow bacteria, and the temperature does not alter its chemical make up.
49This is of particular interest for me, because it's not just Nalgene bottles, it's any plastic bottle. Think about the PALLETS of water that sit out in the sun all day in Iraq and Afghanistan before they are distributed to our soldiers to hydrate. There only source of water over there is Bottled Water in plastic bottles, that they then put into their plastic canteens, or plastic CamelBak bladders.
