Larry King Married Too Many Times to Remember Prenup — Would You Get One?

Isn't Larry King romantic! Although he's worth a reported $144 million, he allegedly didn't have his now-estranged wife sign a prenup. Lucky for her, California law dictates that she will get half of the money made during their 13-year marriage.

Most of us don't have that kind of money, but this extreme example makes a good case for protecting the financial assets that you bring to a marriage. Would you get a prenup?

I find it humorous that so many people here comment "as long as assets prior to marrage are protected its okay we share what is earned during the marrage 50/50." You do realize that someone who has a networth of lets say $10million can probably earn close to $1 million/year in interest alone so how is it fair to then split that money 50/50 if the other partner is a teacher earning say $50,000. Splitting 50/50 what is earned during the marriage is often times not equitable at all.

I have one, being a second marriage and I learned from the first. This one has lasted 20 years so far so it is not planning your divorce it is protecting yourself.

I want to add to this discussion that it's been reported that he abused her. If it's true, I hope she gets a very nice settlement.

Maybe. It depends on the assets and circumstances. Besides, a prenup can protect BOTH parties, not just one.Personally, we did not get one. Arguably, when we first married, I think I had more assets than my husband did (upon close examination). But that picture has really changed during our marriage. Also, all our assets now are jointly owned.

I wouldn't sign one. In most states and across the world, divorces without prenups grant each partner half of assets ACQUIRED DURING THE MARRIAGE. So that means if I marry a man who already has a house and then we divorce, he keeps the house -- it was already his before the wedding. If he had $100 million in the bank the day of the wedding, I can't touch it. The only things that are shared between the two parties are things that were bought / won / earned during the marriage, which in my opinion should be shared anyways.

If one party is drastically wealthier than the other, I think it's a good idea. I wouldn't be offended if my husband wanted one, we just don't have one cause we own about the same, which isn't a lot.

If I had a large amount of money, absolutely. No, it's not romantic. At all. It is, however, realistic, and romance won't pay your bills when your estranged spouse takes half (or more) of your hard-earned savings.

Did Paul McCartney not teach these men anything?! I wouldn't have an issue signing a prenup (I have nothing of value to protect). But you are supposed to marry someone for love, not for their money. If it doesn't work out, you shouldn't be entitled to anything, except if there are children involved.

i wouldn't, with my current assets (especially since we own a house 50/50 and he makes more money than me and has more assets)...but if i were worth $144 million and my partner was a nobody, yes probablyif i were Jay-Z and my wife were Beyonce though maybe not because we're both pretty loaded...but if my partner was just some schmo who probably wants to spend my money, i would think about it i can't believe nobody would have told him to do it slash forced him to do it (like his accountant, lawyer, manager etc.)
