White House Correspondents Dinner

Saturday night was the big White House Correspondents Dinner! The night was complete with a red carpet, the comic stylings of host Craig Ferguson, Gen. Colin Powell as the surprise ladies' man, and probably the world's only known photo of Karl Rove with Will.i.am. In case the mailman lost your invitation like he lost mine, here's the whole night in pics. (LC and Heidi were both there! Gasp!)

Despite what I think of any politicians views, I love to see people having a good time and enjoying themselves, away from the stresses of every day life and jobs. It's nice to know that even in one of the most pressure filled 24/7 jobs known to man, those people can still have fun now and then. maybe63 - me too I like people who don't take themselves too seriously.

He's got a silver spoon the size of my fist - a little family background: George H. Walker and Samuel Prescott Bush were the dynasty's founding fathers during the years of and after World War I. Walker, a St. Louis financier, made his mark in corporate reorganizations and war contracts. By 1919, he was enlisted by railroad heir W. Averell Harriman to be president of Wall Street-based WA Harriman, which invested in oil, shipping, aviation and manganese, partly in Russia and Germany, during the 1920s. Sam Bush, the current president's other great-grandfather, ran an Ohio company, Buckeye Steel Castings, that produced armaments. In 1917, he went to Washington to head the small arms, ammunition and ordnance section of the federal War Industries Board... Prescott Bush, the Connecticut senator and grandfather of the current president...directored companies involved in U.S. war production. Dresser Industries, for example, produced gaseous diffusion pumps for the atomic bomb project. George H.W. Bush later worked for Dresser's oil-services businesses...then, as CIA director, vice president and president.

I just wanted to point out that my father reminds me a lot of Bush (in looks, humor and personality, not leadership or any other aspect). He (my dad) is a very smart man with a lot of experience in his field and a lot of education under his belt --- but he is also very down to earth and can be freaking hilarious and comical, definitely a man I love to have beer with (though we usually drink wine) ;) Anywho, just because you want to have beer with someone, doesn't necessarily make that person on a lower level, imo. They can still be smart as Einstein and have a great personality and sense of humor.

Yesteryear - I agree that I want someone who is smarter than me to run the country(and that isn't difficult to find). I also want someone who knows the plight I am in, and can help me, not someone who grew up with a silver spoon in their mouth. BTW - I think Obama did just that. Other than the Clinton camp, I don't see where the "elitist" crap is coming from.

mayeb63, yeah i don't think he takes being president very seriously either! sorry! couldn't resist! but seriously, i think that's why he was "elected" in the first place, people saw him as their buddy. but i don't understand america's need to have a guy who they'd have beers with running their country... which speaks to the fact that everyone thinks obama is an elitist snob. don't we want someone smarter than us running our country? i know i do.

I'm sorry but I like Bush (well, I'm not really sorry). Politics aside, I love someone who doesn't take themselves too serious. I bet Bush was a lot of fun in his earlier days.

this is further proof of my theory that bush should look into a career in stand-up comedy after he's out of office. i can't stand the guy, but he's made me laugh on more than one occasion. maybe he could open for carrot top?

Who hasn't wanted to conduct an orchestra. (Most of us, "of a certain age." have dreamed of it.)And the jokes Bush told on himself and the Candidates were funny-groaners, too.
