Where Do You Stand: Sharing Clothes With Someone Bigger Than You

Even if you're all for swapping clothes with friends, I bet you have a friend or two that thinks she wears the same size as you when she clearly doesn't! If you're like me, you take good care of your things, so lending your favorite top or dress to a friend with a bigger chest or wider hips just isn't an option. But how do you say yes to some people and no to others? Is there a polite way, or am I being too finicky about my clothing? Where do you stand on lending clothes to friends that are bigger than you?

Im in a bit of a dillemma...Im not one to share clothes really, unless its something that wasn't too expensive, because like some have said Im worried they will come back ruined, or get returned a long time after it was borrowed. Im moving into a flat next year with two other girls next year who said they cant wait to be able to "steal" each others clothes. I wouldnt mind lending the odd thing but I dont like the sound of this!

absolutely NOT! these are my clothes, my size. i dont want them to come back stretched out. im not saying absurdly stretched out but even just a little and it bothers me. besides, i would always be worried that they would wash garments incorrectly. i dont share my clothes anyhow.

don't like sharing or borrowing clothes, because i am afraid of them getting ruined or "altered." the last thing i lent was a dress for a new year's party to one of my best friends. she's the same size as me so i'm not afraid of it getting stretched or whatever, but... considering it was a club, and she sweated a lot, that dress probably isn't in as good shape now. on top of it, she still has it... last time i asked about it she said she still had to bring it to the dry cleaners and that was maybe 2-3 months after the party!

I used to share tops with my mom when I was living at home. We couldn't share pants because I have wider hips than her. I would usually wear clothes we shared to work, but as far as weekend activities, I would wear my own clothes. I wouldn't share with anyone else.

wow, these comments are a little sad to read. I share most of my clothes - my friends are great and would never ruin my clothes. I share all the time with my bff, cos she is just a bit bigger than me, which is quite small. Most of my friends are bigger than me, so they just don't bother asking. Also, I don't really have any deluded friends. Haha. They know their size, and that's ok :) Sharing is great - your wardrobe is much, much bigger! If its summer here, its winter where my sis lives, so we swap much of our clothes every half year. Its awesome :)

i think people are being a bit harsh. sharing clothes isn't dirty or gross! if you trust & know the person, it's not weird at all. it's a nice way to wear something new once in a while without spending more money! also--i've found that my friends tend to respect whatever i lend them. for example, none of my friends would go without underwear while wearing pants of mine! that's just disrespectful.

I fit into kids clothes...Most girls are smart enough to know they couldn't hold their breaths long enough to try and fit into my clothes.

I don't swap clothes with any of my friends, only my sister on a rare occasion. And she's the same size as me. None of my friends are as small as me, but a couple of them are close and could fit into my tops or dresses probably. If they asked, I'd let them, as long as it wasn't something that could be stretched out or something that was really expensive.

I once lent a nice tee shirt to a friend who has a much larger chest than I do. We went to a party together and I just knew that my shirt was getting streched and she got underarm sweat all over it too! First and last time I lend out anything, especially something I really like!

I share my clothes with whoever wants them. They don't really get stretched out that much. I don't understand what this post means-someone with bigger boobs or some hips? There's nothing wrong with sharing clothes in that situation. Or someone who is just a size bigger but can still wear your clothes b/c they maybe like to wear them tight and smaller? Then I think that's okay too. But I think if there is a significant size difference, it would be recognized by the person..?

I've never shared my clothes, not even in high school. I had one friend I used to lend shoes to, but that was it. But even if I were to break that rule, I wouldn't lend to someone who is a bigger size then me. And would they really not know that? Do people really think they are the same size when they obviously are not?

I've shared clothes occasionally, usually only for special events, like a dress, a poncho, sweater, tops, scarf, shoes, and usually because they were staying over as well, and they've usually been returned to me washed and in fine condition. You just have to use your judgement.. All these items had some stretch in them, so they didn't come back all ruined..

Most of my friends are about a size 2 or 4 and I'm a 6, plus I'm taller than most too. And the ones that are bigger are about a size 8 or 10, so I can only really lend tops, which I don't mind since I have bigger boobs than most of friends anyway so nobody is going to stretch my top out more than myself :P. I wouldn't mind loose dresses if it fits over my bigger friend's hips.

i let my friends wear my clothes all the time. i'm tall and skinny with no boobs, while one of my best friends is shorter and curvier. she always borrows my bigger/stretchy shirts & dresses. she never tries to wear anything if she knows it will be too small. she has great style, but i always tell her if something doesn't look good, so its never been a problem.

Okay last post! I wanted to clarify that when I said I lent my friend a handbag/piece of jewelry, I didn't let her take the item home. She would give the item back to me at the end of our day out.

Simple solution, I do not share my clothes. When I was younger and friend would sleep over I would lend her a handbag or a piece of jewelry to wear out to lunch the next day however she was bigger then me only she knew it so there was no point in her asking (also I was a tomboy and my warbrobe wasn't something to envy then,lol.) However she did lend me tops that were sometime snug on her. We made reasonable trades.
