Where Do You Stand? Going to the Bathroom in Front of Your Significant Other

While I'm all for being completely yourself with your significant other, I also think some things should be off-limits in front of each other, and going to the bathroom is at the top of my list. Yes, it's natural and we all do it, but in order to keep the romance alive, I strongly believe in a closed bathroom door policy! Some couples I know, however, think it's no big deal, so tell me where you stand on going to the bathroom in front of your significant other.

I think it is a total comfort thing. If I'm in the bath and my boyfriend has to go; he'll go. But definitely would not be a #2...yikes. I think that is off bounds!

I truly think using the bathroom should be behind closed doors! I don't want anyone walking in on me just sitting on the throne! Now...what do you do when it goes out futher than significant others?? DH will pee with the door open where our DAUGHTERS can walk by and watch!!!!! I CAN'T STAND IT!!!! I don't want to watch him and I DEFINITELY don't think the girls need to be watching him. I think his desire of peeing with the door open goes along the lines of guys wanting to pee outside! I CAN'T STAND IT...IT'S A HUGE PET PEEVE OF MINE...

maybe i'm a little over the top but i always close the door and turn on the water. no matter what. and the fan too. he makes fun of me a lot but oh well. of course for him its different- he grew up in a house of all guys (except for his mom!) and so i think not closing the door when peeing is pretty commonplace at their house.

My husband and I keep the bathroom door open, and we don't mind using the toilet in front of each other. We don't REQUIRE the door to be open though, and we respect one another's space when they do close the bathroom door. I don't see anything wrong either way-- if you need the door shut, that's fine, if you leave it open, that's ok too.

NO WAY.He doesn't care. He used to leave the toilet door open and I'd go into the kitchen and he'd be sitting there having a poop. REAL NICE. I refuse to even let him talk to me if I'm on the toilet from the other side of the door!He'll come in and use the toilet if I'm in the shower when he gets home from work. Ewwwww. I always stay facing the other side shouting IS NOTHING SACRED ANYMORE.

I'm with Indigo. My bf and I have had serious discussions about life and the mysteries of the universe while one of us was on the crapper. It usually starts off with one of us in the bathroom and the other in the room. The convo continues in separate rooms until (usually me) someone yells about not being able to hear the other. It ends with the other person screaming, "Well, it's not like you haven't smelled it before."

what is this whole idea about not making bodily functions private in order to keep the romance and mystery alive? it's delusional. if the stability of your relationship' future depends on your significant other giving you privacy in the bathroom, i'd say there's a minor issue. we're human beings. our parents changed our diapers and that didn't change their love for us. same goes with your significant other. true intimacy will not falter in the bathroom.that being said, i'm not saying that it's wrong to have privacy in the bathroom...i'm just saying that for it to be a rule for the sake of the relationship brings up the question of whether your relationship is truly intimate.

Hah, we broke through that comfort zone last night! My newly live-in boyfriend was in the shower and I asked when he would be finished so I could use the bathroom. He started laughing and called me a prude because I didn't want to pee in front of him ... needless to say my bladder won out and it really wasn't as big deal as I had made it up to be :)

I'm with party. I'll never let my boyfriend see me do my business and I'll never watch him do his. Even if someones behind a shower curtain it's still a bit gross.

He doesn't seem to mind it but I do. I can't stand to see him use the bathroom, he is a really gassy person. When I am there, he will stand and open the door on me. The farthest it has ever been was when he walked in on me and kissed my forehead. Weird. He told me that it doesn't matter what I do, he will still kiss me.
