Where Do You Stand? Admitting Your Pregnancy Was a Surprise

Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced on yesterday's episode of The View that she's expecting her third child, but watching her break this news, I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable when she went into detail about how her pregnancy was a surprise. She was honest about the fact that she didn't know she was "knocked up" for almost two months, and while she seems to be excited about the new addition to her family, I found myself saying TMI! I might be the odd one out here, so tell me, where do you all stand on announcing that your pregnancy was a surprise?

umm, nguidjol, a conservative Christian can still use birth control. BC doesn't go against all conservative Christian's beliefs.

I kind of like when people say because I always want to know, but it's rude to ask. And I would not think it was cute if Michelle Obama said that. I feel like being FIrst Lady means you're held to a higher standard and don't share things like that that some people would consider tmi.

Im sorry sugar, but Elizabeth isn't considered 'knocked up' when she is married w/ kids. I always assumed a surprise was a good thing! Who wouldn't want to expand their family if they could?

But EH is a conservative Christian and they don't believe in contraception of any kind. So yeah i don't she will be using BC anytime soon. But, Hey congrats to her!

My sister was an unplanned child. My mum found out when she was 5 months pregnant and had gone to the doctor to see why her periods had stopped. She also didn't notice for five months because she had a lot on her plate at the time and didn't have the time to think about her cycle.It was definately a surprise to my dad, as mum wasn't really showing!

i dislike elisabeth as much as the next person from what i've seen of her, however graylen's comment is right and all those who still continued to comment: "UMMM like duh!! if you dont use bc youre going to get pregnant!!" probably should have read that comment before parroting the 20 others of the same material on this post. also, i think it's a shame women don't look out for each other more often. not tmi at all, makes me sad that anyone would consider it that.

no not tmi. not a fan of elisabeth, but i find whoopi, barbara and sherri even more annoying/dumb. joy is the only joy to watch on that show. kudos to her for being vocal about breastfeeding, if that is the case. "It's one thing to think about your friends or family having sex to create a baby it's another to think about them doing it for fun" ummm even speaking as someone who is really into having babies, isn't sex quite often more about the fun? or do you really prefer to assume that your friends and family would only do it out of procreation duty? i really dont get why this is tmi... does it actually make ppl squeamish to think about ppl having sex 'just for fun'? the sex part wouldn't even come to my mind. what really comes to mind is that she doesn't want mainstream people to associate her too closely with bible belt people who pop out kid after kid. as in, she's micromanaging her brand of fame. just my conspiracy theory.

It's TMI (and annoying) to me because she told the whole friggin world about it. If I got pregnant by surprise, I would only tell close friends.

I think that it's pretty impossible to have a surprise pregnancy if you're using birth control properly and know that antibiotics or certain herbs can interfere with your pill. I'm not judging I just think that woman should be informed. I'm not on the pill but I know these things. You need to know all the facts. It's one thing to think about your friends or family having sex to create a baby it's another to think about them doing it for fun. I don't think it's something that needs to be said unless it's to your close friends.

I agree with princess_eab birth control isn't 100% and I know two people who got pregnant on birth control so I think assuming there is no such thing as a surprise pregnancy is kind on one sided.

I wish there is pregnancy that surprises the guy. That look when he finds out is so very "memorable". Men turn into a mini chicken when confronted with their fear and pregnancy surprises that pierce into their little heart is so shocking that they are not boys anymore. Men think that they are boys even at age 90...haha.

Ok, when someone says it is a "surprise" pregnancy, they rarely mean it in a "holy shizz, how'd that happen?" way - it is just a shorter way of saying they weren't necessarily trying for a pregnancy at that time. Everyone that commented "how can it be a surprise?" should take that into consideration. I don't think it is TMI to announce the pregnancy was a surprise - it is a nice way to volunteer the answer to the question that probably pops into most people's heads, especially when pregnancies are so close together. I actually think it's more TMI for a couple to announce that they are trying to conceive - that kinda weirds me out.

Anytime you have sex without a comment, you really can't call a pregnancy surprising. But, she annoys me, pregnant or not.

I don't think it's TMI...what I don't like in pregnancy situations is when people ASK "oh was this a surprise??" if we're not close enough for me to have shared it with you if it was intentional or not, I don't want you to know!
