What's Your First-Date Pet Peeve?

At a press conference for her latest rom-com, How Do You Know, Reese Witherspoon revealed a first-date dealbreaker: correcting grammar. "I had someone correct my grammar on a blind date once," she said, "and I knew within the first 10 minutes that the date was over."

Fair enough! I give guys I like generous margins of error, which has not worked in my favor, while I'll ask other guys to pack their knives and leave for choosing a bad restaurant (and thinking it's good). What small thing made you certain a first date would be the last?

Biggest deal breakers are guys who get too nervous around me. I'm really not that scary! One guy was so nervous that he locked himself out of his car and had to call his roommate to come and bring the spare key. He was also trembling from nerves, I suppose. I don't know why he was so nervous because I've been told I'm pretty approachable. I also dislike guys who try too hard. I would much rather have him take me to his favorite restaurant - even if it's a hole in the wall - than some $$$$$$ place.

Hahah the grammar thing is pretty bad. I do notice it when people say something incorrectly, but don't mention anything - unless it's my husband, who has asked me to remind him of certain things he does. Anyway, a deal breaker for me would be someone who says mean or negative things about other people. Be it random strangers around us, or an ex, or anyone that comes up in the conversation.

I hate when a guy wants to meet up somewhere. I guess it's old fashioned, but I want him to pick me up at my door for the first date. Meeting up feels like just hanging out with a friend, and I prefer a first date to feel a bit more special than that.

My last first date kept telling me throughout the night that when he's with a girl, she'll be treated like royalty and that the date is all about the girl and that she's the most important thing to him in that moment. All I could think was, dude, shut the hell up and show me already!!

I've never had a terrible first date, thank goodness. I did go out with a guy and before the date, he said something on AIM chat that made my cringe (sexual). I couldn't get it out of my head and nothing happened beyond that date. Checking his phone more than 2 times would be a deal breaker for me. I take nerves into consideration on a first date, so there are very few things I would knock him for.

I have two really bad first dates: 1) The guy that chewed with his mouth open 2) The guy wouldn't shut up about himself, I couldn't get one word in about myself

I probably would not make it past a first date with Reese Witherspoon. Aside from the fact that I'm a straight woman, I'm also a grammar nazi. I mockingly correct my boyfriend's grammar frequently (though he's pretty well spoken so it doesn't happen all that often). Really I probably wouldn't do it on the first date though. =P The only guy that I've ever gone out with that I absolutely would not consider a second date with wasn't really because of a small thing. It was a blind date and he was TERRIBLE at conversation. I could tell even the waitress at the restaurant we were at felt bad for me. Super awkward. I would try to start up conversation, but every question I asked got a one word answer and he never asked me any questions. "So...do you like to travel?" "Yes." ".....okaaaayy then." I haven't run into this, but I also would probably not date a smoker. It's not even the smoke that bothers me, it's that EVERYTHING smells like cigarettes. Clothes, car, house, everything. Gross.

Lol! A guy once offered to take me to TGI Fridays on our first (blind) date. I asked if it would be okay if I showed up wearing PINK sweatpants, a wifebeater with a black bra, flipflops and reeking of tanning salon. Needless to say, that date did not happen. This probably makes me sound high-maintenance, but chain restaurants are for happy hour with co-workers, not first dates.

I hated when guys would call me the day of, or when they would call without a plan (or at least suggestions). Not necessarily deal breakers, but red flags were: wanting to sit on the same side of the table, taking me up on my offer to split, or checking their phone more than once or twice.
