What You Might See If You Could Go to Cuba
President Obama
lifted travel restrictions for Cuban Americans a couple of weeks ago, and since then travel is booming. A 2004 Bush administration policy allowed US residents with family in Cuba to travel to the island only once every three years. Now, those with relatives are free to go. The general American population still must observe an all-out ban on travel.
There are signs that this might change. US officials held talks with Cuban diplomats in Washington DC this week, to discuss taking further steps to improve relations between the neighboring rivals. Permission for US residents to visit the island could come soon!
Still, you can't book your ticket today, so take a look at some scenes from Cuban life. These pictures are pretty, but it's safe to assume that life is hard for many people in this impoverished country.

Canadians have been free to travel to Cuba while Americans were banned...it's the same as vacationing in a resort in Dominican Republic or Mexico, really
a resort is a resort is a resort...and it's fairly cheap
1i just got back from Cuba.
2However, I'm Canadian
and yes, agree with skigurl...pretty much a resort the same as dominican, or anywhere like that. kinda the same
3That is exactly why I avoid resorts. Just more of the same.
'Life is hard for many people in this impoverished country'.
So is life hard in the US for many people. The word impoverished can have whatever meaning you give to it but the truth is that in Cuba you can get far better health care and education in all levels and it is all for free. Cuba is also a way more self sufficient country, they already faced peak oil and their communities are doing a good job growing their own organic food. The fact that they don't have access to the stupid box with cable or to designer clothing certainly doesn't make them impoverished to me.
4Last year I have been in Cuba....Varadero maybe its like a resort in Mexico or Dominican but La Habana or another cities are completly different story......and for people there its not easy to have free access to whatever food or clothes they want...its easy to live with 40 dls a month???...and its not very self suffcient country they buy almost all food and supplies to Mexico....
5but its a very special and beautiful country!
6my mother was born in Havana, and the entire family left in 1960 when Castro came to power. I can't wait until the day when I can freely visit Cuba and see understand my family's roots.
7Keep in mind that if American are allowed to go there and trade is opened Cuba will look NOTHING LIKE THAT in a few years. Let's not ruin it people.
8@gabiuska, you have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe the US should go to Cuba like I did to see how things REALLY are and not just how they are portrayed by the government.
9what communism has done is sad.
10It's kind of hilarious that the travel embargo still exists. It just seems so... petty.
