What New Traditions Have You Created As a Couple?

Whether it's watching your favorite holiday movie together, heading down to the local ice skating rink for a date, or sending an original and silly couple's Christmas card, it's fun to create new holiday traditions with your significant other. If you're in a relationship, tell me: how do you and your partner get into the couple's holiday spirit?

We both have a lot of family events in the area, so our holiday tradition has been to spend every other holiday in our home state doing the extended family thing and on alternating years we travel some place warm for a week and avoid all family obligations.

To clarify my post #10, I meant that we celebrate TOGETHER with each our families. We attend my family's celebration AND his family's celebration.

For us, we celebrate Christmas with our families separately, as our families live in separate states. Truthfully, it's more an obligation than a tradition. LOL :)

These are so sweet!! The main thing we do together is get and decorate a (real) tree while listening to Christmas music and drinking hot chocolate. My husband has started doing something this year that I really love - he works nights but I can usually make it home to eat a quick dinner before he goes to work. It's dark by the time I get there, and he turns on the tree lights before I get home and opens the blinds so when I turn on our street, I see our tree already lit up. Makes me smile every night!

This year we decorated our own stockings- I hope it becomes a tradition, because it was so fun, and the results were a little whacky.

Hmm, I actually can't really think of any. We're always so crazy busy with family stuff - his family and my two families live in the same town, so we're all over the place.

My fiance and I started making our own Christmas ornaments this year. We want ornaments that tell a story, no matter how simple. We make tamales with mi Mama y Abuela. My mom loves it because he has big hands and can hold the cornhusks and spread the masa evenly. lol. He's also joined in the tradition of going to my uncle's house for the family Christmas Eve party where we eat, drink, play man vs women pictionary and sing carols. I'm joining him and his family of going to Rocklin to visit his grandparents the weekend before christmas and will see them either late Christmas Day or just after. We also go to dinner and stroll down Candy Cane lane in Monterey. Our tradition of 3 years now :)I can't wait to make more traditions with him.

We always go look at Christmas lights in one of the bigger neighborhoods in the city. They are huge, old houses and we love seeing how some of them go all out for the holidays!

We usually go to the movies after presents and dinner are done on Christmas Day. There's usually something good that comes out on Christmas, and the crowds aren't that obnoxious either.

In our five years together we have created some fun holiday traditions. After a car accident left my hand and back mangled I couldn't make a holiday stocking for my guy so I wrapped his presents in the fabric and tied it to a stick as a Christmas hobo bag one year. The following year he had a stocking but requested the hobo bag again, so that is now a tradition. When we lived in Florida we used to camp out on Christmas eve but not anymore since we moved to Colorado. We used to drink Mimosas after a solid workout on Christmas morning but I am pregnant this year so that is out. We will be going to the movies and eating Chinese food again with our Jewish and Buddhist friends Christmas evening this year so that is a developing tradition.

And we watch A Christmas Vacation after we hang up the lights and Love Actually the day we get cut down the tree.I look forward to years of us doing these same things each year.

we go to the parties of each other's families and friends! Make my friends amd families know him better and his like me!
