What Your Music Says About Your Personality
One glimpse at the top-25 tracks in your iTunes can tell a lot about you. A
2006 study revealed music is the most popular topic of conversation in the first six weeks of platonic and romantic relationships, surpassing books, movies, TV, football, and clothes.
Introversion and extroversion are perhaps the two characteristics that most affect what music people tune into. Though both temperaments will roll — or rock — with their moods and activities, extroverts are more likely to reach for upbeat music that's heavy on vocals while introverts gravitate towards slower tunes with complex movements.
One surprise is that there's no connection between the abrasive lyrics common in rap and heavy metal and aggressive or sexual behavior. Listeners of heavy metal, particularly, have shown to be sensitive and gentle souls. In fact, they have a lot in common with classical music lovers. They're both creative, easy-going, and introverted.
Whether you listen to pop and rap or indie and classical, see what it says about you.

from the ones mentioned i listen to rap, blues, soul, country and pop so according to that i am:
•High self-esteem
1•Outgoing
•Despite stereotype, not violent or aggressive
•Creative
•Curious
•Assertive
•Liberal
•Intellectual
•Open to new experiences
•Hardworking
•Conventional
•Conservative
•Extroverted
•Emotionally stable
•Honest
This is a bunch of bull. I listen to almost all those types of music listed, and I certainly can't be extroverted and introverted at the same time, or conservative and liberal both.
2I'm partial to Jazz AND Indie, so what does that say?
Bollocks, that's what.
3No classic rock? and I'm not metal... but still, no metal??
4You can totally be both Juicebox! I'm super duper liberal, but I take a hard right when it comes to gun control.
And sometimes I feel like listening to jazz, sometimes I feel like listening to indie. Sometimes I feel like listening to both, then I dust off my old Tortoise cds.
This is kinda like reading my horoscope...fun in an over arching way, but not meant to be too detailed.
5Hah, I definitely prefer slower music but I am as outgoing as they get.
6Ehh. Kinda weird. I think those descriptions are only made for people who only like one kind of music. I love jazz and classical, and the descriptions for both are not similar at all.
7So I listen to just about everything..... so I have high self-esteem and low self-esteem. Im a liberal and a conservative.... (I'm much more conservative then liberal, with the exception of religious topics and abortion). This is a load of crap. Anybody who only listens to one type of music is close minded... I (and almost everybody I know), listen to different genres based on my mood. I call BULLSH** on this whole study!!!
8I know, no classic rock or metal or even hard rock??? what the hey??
9No metal? Do I just have no personality then?
10And I can definitely second what the article says about metalheads. All the ones I know/have met from my boyfriend to people I've met at concerts have been really nice, generally respectful, non-violent (outside of moshing, of course)... not what you'd really think they'd be.
And metal has a lot of roots in classical (especially dark classical)... which is apparent in most metal all the way from Slayer's thrash, to Symphony X's power metal, the industrial of Nine Inch Nails, to the more obvious classic metal of Black Sabbath and the modern symphonic metal of Nightwish. The main note of metal (Devil's 3rd) comes from really old classical roots, and the general organization/complexity does too. The swearing and screaming, not so much.
11No world music (reggae, salsa, Gaelic, Caribbean, Indian classical, fado, flamenco, klezmer, zydeco, gospel)? No ska? No bluegrass? No Bollywood?
12I figured it out... If you like popular genres of music that wasn't listed, then your personality is indescribable!
13I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to music. . .I guess that says something about my personality in itself.
