What Was the Most Common Topic of Conversation at Your Thanksgiving Table?

Politics and the economy have been the big topics of conversation this year — with good reason — but since many families have a "no politics" clause during family get-togethers, the hot topics are usually off limits. If your family is anything like mine, it's those hot topics that end up dominating the conversation anyway.

Getting family together can be tough enough as it is without engaging in heated debate so tell me, what were the conversations at your table like this year? Were they calm, cool, and collected or were they comprised of typical family arguments?

I'm a member of the "black sheep" part of my family and we talked about how grateful we were not to be stuck with the rest of them. Hah. Mostly, we talked about the food and our friends.

Spent time at my AWESOME inlaws(this is not a joke, we love eachother). We talked about a little of everything, keeping the rule intact that we didn't talk about religion or politics (guess it's an Oklahoma thing). Aprilmayjune4 and Skigirl: I LOL'd. My family (whom lives in NJ-I'm in OK) talks about politics and the black sheep, and yeah, my Aunts brag about her kids when my side of the family really knows that those kids are G.H.E.T.T.O. Heh, had to spell it out. My husband's family has great get-togethers. Although, this year was better than past ones because certain "black sheep" weren't there to b*tch about the food (they even said so in front of people, I almost called them out last year). Anyhoo, all in all, a very nice Thanksgiving. 8)

the whole afternoon was calm. my sis likes to talk about herself and her job alot, but other than that, normal conversations and catching up from not seeing each other as often as we'd like. we have a very close family so work, relationships, future plans, etc. just don't come up.

Michelle Obama/Beyonce (my cousin is a huge BeBe fan. Talked about babies and watched This Christmas. I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

I WISH we played frisbee or something! my sister is getting married, so that rules all of the conversations when the family gets together. everyone's a wedding coordinator now ;0

It was a bit weird this year..we didn't really talk we just ate. Normally we reminisce and laugh but there was some tension in the air because of family fights that occured earlier in the year, so we kinda just ate and ran. I was kind of disappointed!

Yes, the food!! And what's going on in everyone's life. And funny stories from the past (that parts the best). And we played frisbee!!! That was fun! :)

We talked about everything that wouldn't cause fights and made us laugh. We had a great Thanksgiving. :)

at many of our family get-togethers we talk about how amazing my cousins are doing in school (while my parents quietly bask in the knowledge that they're children are actually doing better but yet, are modest enough to keep it to themselves)...and we talk about my aunt and uncle's divorce...ie: how he's a cheatins scumbag and how she's turning into a crazy alcoholic as a result but my family is good. we get along, and normally dinners are not heated or uncomfortable.
