HerWay.com: The Sadie Hawkins Dance of Online Dating

The new dating site HerWay.com says it's the Sadie Hawkins of online dating. In other words, women choose whom they want to date. The site allows female members to browse profiles anonymously, while forbidding men from searching. Once a woman decides she likes a guy, her profile is revealed to the man.

The company hopes its strategy will provide women privacy, discretion, and safety. Theoretically this approach could make it easier for women to find suitable dates, rather than deal with a flood of flirty messages, winks, or whatever. Now let's just see if men sign up. By now there's nothing novel about women asking men out, but this approach doesn't even give a guy a chance to show the initial interest. Would you try it out?

Interesting, but certainly not going to lower the angst of dating --- you're still waiting to see if someone else likes you but before you find out, you have to make yourself vulnerable by revealing your own interest. Yikes! Welcome to the new double standard. Hey, men do it all the time so why not women? It's ok for a man to make himself vulnerable but not women? I think maybe both should do it. It depends on the person. You don't think there are some women who are more outgoing than some men and some men who are more shy than some women? I admit if I was a woman I would enjoy holding onto the power also but fair is fair and this is the twenty first century after all.

This is going to create self-esteem issues for women. I'm sorry, but it really is. Having frequented dating sites in the past, and having known other men who have done the same, I've noticed that women just don't initiate contact. 99% of the time, it's the man who does it. The problem with this site is that any woman who is ugly or fat or some such is going to waste their time here. They're going to spend a week choosing their perfect man, send him a message, and then cry for two weeks when he doesn't answer back. This will repeat itself over and over because ugly and/or fat women are going to think that that perfect 10 guy is going to respond.
I predict this site is not going to get much traffic. Don't get me wrong I like the idea of the woman making the first move. Society still puts alot of pressure on men to make the first move and alot of nice guys miss out because they either appear to be coming on too strong/akwardly or the shame of rejection is too much for them to bare. Herway.com does not seem like much of a game changer to me though sadly, it feels more like another site pandering to a demographic with emphasis on e-dating safe from the tasteless flirting/improper propositioning of men.
Well so much for gender neutrality and treating men and women as equals.

I think it's cool, I mean if a guy can show that he's passionate about something and a girl finds it revealing, all she has to do is say hello and then the conversation happens. I find it cool that a women can find someone she likes rather then finding a thousand guys who likes her, because lets face it, when a guy sees a gorgeous girl and their profile seems alright, their going to flirt with them! Then the next girl and then the next after that and so on. So I think it's better if one end is taken down and the mens side is the better choice. Let's just face it a girl takes her time when meeting a guy then a guy does meeting a girl, because men think with their penis to much! :P
As a man, it seems to me that the women who pursue me are unfavorable. I get better results going after what I want than waiting for it to come to me.

Umm don't women generally choose their dates? Even if someone approaches you, if you're not into it you're free to say no, right? Honestly, I sometimes think these gimmicks are just way out of hand

... what guy would ever want to join this site? I'd worry the pool would be all men who aren't assertive, but maybe that's not the reality.

I have to agree, I think this is a good idea. I too like when guys show interested, but I'm over the whole wink and flirty messages...
I like this idea. I gotta admit I like when guys make the first move, but I love being in control too :) I think men would sign up for this, give them a break from being the aggressor, I'd be afraid that there would be even more lying on the profile so that they seem attractive to women.
