When I look at Jordin Sparks, winner of this season's American Idol, I see a lovely and talented 17 year old. And Meme Roth of National Obesity Action? "When I look at Jordin what I see is diabetes, I see heart disease, I see high cholesterol...She's a vision of unhealth." Ummm. Maybe you should go get your eyes checked, Meme. She's no size 0, but obese?! Also, what does this have to do with a talent competition?

sad to say it, but I'm gonna defend Meme, here. just because she is attacking (wrongly) Jordin, you are all jumping on her for having an eating disorder! Meme probably just exercises, eats healthy, and has a good metabolism. I'm size zero, haven't ever thrown up without a fever and you should see how much bread i just ate! (a realllllly good baguette!)

I'm very overweight and I have perfect blood sugar, low cholesterol, low triglycerides and they can't point a thing wrong with me EXCEPT the weight. Overweight does NOT mean unhealthy.... overthin, however, usually does.

Julibul, I'm with ya sister. I'm 5'10 myself and am in pretty good shape...I met up with a new trainer today and she did a caliber test and she was like, "uh, you don't have any hip fat to test, and I hardly ever see this, even in athletes," but aww hell, according to this genius, I am probably considered morbidly obese since I'm a size 8. I guess if I were a size 4 I would be considered "normal" but I am not meant to be that small and no amount of dieting, exercise, or starving myself will ever make me that way, and I'm totally cool with it. Being morbidly obese IS an American problem, but before a young lady gets bashed for being naturally "thicker," perhaps we should tackle why PE is taken out of many schools altogether and the typical hot lunch in the schoools have more calories than a double whopper and jumbo fries, and why kids are given soda to drink instead of water. It's morons like this woman who make my beautiful 13 year old cousin come home bawling...and she can run faster than most of the guys in her grade. It makes me positively sick.

I am all bout the youth being active and not glued to the TV with a bag of cheetos and a coke in their hand and all, but those comments are out of line! Could she not have brought up NICOLE RITCHIE or any of the other celebs who have opted for the sticks and bones look?! That is unhealthy. Jordin is healthy and full- not fat or obese! I agree with a previous reader. lets all have MEME checked out-..psychologically. She talks like she has some serious issues with weight herself...mentally. (anorexia or bulemia anyone?) seriously. Okay, I'm have a similar body type as Jordin and I'm not even classified as overweight. At the end of my "normal" range, yes, BUT NOT EVEN OVERWEIGHT. That woman is an idiot. Obese? I take offense to that! During soccer season, I was able to run a 6 minute mile on a bad day, and did daily jogging and sprint exercises for an hour straight. AND I STILL LOOKED LIKE JORDIN SPARKS. Having her win doesn't send a message promoting unhealth, it sends a message showing how you can still be successful in "the industry" with a body type that's not toothpick-ish. Jordin looks healthy to me. Ugh.

I never really like Jordin, but she's DEFINITELY NOT OBESE..lord, no wonder so many girls and women have eating disorders...I think people need to stop stressing about weight...My mom has an eating disorder so I know first hand how things get out of control. I really hope that this doesnt happen to Jordin now that she is a star. There's too much pressure to be thin.

I think Jordin looks great. She is a beautiful girl. This was a singing competition, not a body one. People who are criticizing her weight should stop and think about the also high rate of anorexia and bulimia and body image disorders that are impacting our youth. Putting down a public figure such as Jordin, who is NOT obese, for her weight will have negative effect on the millions who watch the show. Critics like Meme really need to think before they speak, obviously she didn't.
