This is how I like John McCain — kind of a jerk and completely blunt. Last night on The Tonight Show, Jay Leno asked McCain who he thought the leaders of the Republican party were, and he named Florida governor Charlie Crist, Louisiana governor (and 30 Rock's Kenneth the Page sound-alike) Bobby Jindal, and Mitt Romney (twice). And then to prove he didn't accidentally forget some lady governor who messed up his election, he said "and I've left out somebody's name and I'm going to hear about it." See it for yourself below.

Well, that settles it then, the wise old sage of the republican party has spoken. Everyone can get off Sarah Palin, her family, her friends, she no longer matters.
1I was so ready to watch this but my SPURS were on, it's still on my dvr though.
2Others here have virtually ejected McCain from the party for not being a true republican - so are we sure what he says matters?
3Wise old sage? He's the one that picked her. Look Sarah Palin is simply too much of a stigma for any seated politician who doesn't want that association to tarnish their image to embrace.
Like I've said before Gov. Palin has got plenty of time to get her game together because now she knows what to expect. Do not underestimate her.
4What's the basis for the claim that Palin "messed up his election?"
5I'm so curious about whether this was intentional or not, but I guess we'll never know.
6"and I've left out somebody's name and I'm going to hear about it."
I don't have sound at work, but this suggests intent.
7But it kind of sounded more like..."I'm sure I forgot somebody," not like he specifically forgot someone.
8seemed like he knew what he was saying Modus...kind of hard to forget your VP who is everywhere these days...
9G'pa seems certain he was referring to Palin.
10Well to be honest, up until the election, she wouldn't have been considered a leader of the Republican party would she have? I mean, she was virtually unknown. Now she's better known, but being well-known and a leader of a party aren't synonymous.
I don't think McCain forgot her. I don't think he meant to slight her, either. I just don't think he considers her to be a leader of the party.
11I don't think she's a leader in the party, yet. She still needs to gain some more experience.
12I think it is weird that he would intentionally point out that he didn't say her name. That just strikes me as odd.
Then the second thing that comes to mind is what Hypno said...he picked her. If he didn't think she was at least in the top 5 of his favorites, why would he have picked her? Odd.
13Agreed Dave.
14"And then to prove he didn't accidentally forget some lady governor who messed up his election,"
Such reporting......
15Who gives a sh*t? It is his personal view. And I agree GS great quality UNBIASED reporting.
16He can say whatever he wants, if he thinks that Palin's not suitable leader, that's his opinion. Oh well.
17I just can't see her running for presidency in 2012, I know that's what many assume, but still, I can't see her doing that based on what I've seen on tv so far. Maybe in 1-2 years, things can change and she's going to be actively pursuing that or something, who knows.
I should stop reading this site. It's just so BIASED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His opinion, most people don't care about him anymore anyway. But I agree with steph, it suggests intent. The whole "Oooh, I'm gonna say this so people are still gonna talk about me!" kinda thing.
18I also think Palin has a lot more to gain than "experience", given that my bf's ultra-conservative mom was straight-up frightened of her. But to each her own.
19"If he didn't think she was at least in the top 5 of his favorites, why would he have picked her? Odd. "
Yup.
20None of you are old enough to remember how everyone, and I mean EVERYONE wrote off Nixon after he lost to Kennedy. IN POLITICS ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.
21Well, I'm all fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that it ain't ever gonna be President Palin.
22em, in a democracy the people always get what they deserve.
23UNBIASED reporting.
I'm pretty sure this site was initially based on two political voices giving biased opinions on topics. So while the voice of this story might seem to lean a tad left, there are PLENTY of stories with a lean to the right.
So over the this is biased, this is why I don't post here, this is why I've been in hiding, this is why I whine all the time comments that seem to show up from the same people every other day after every other day.
24"I'm pretty sure this site was initially based on two political voices giving biased opinions on topics. So while the voice of this story might seem to lean a tad left, there are PLENTY of stories with a lean to the right."
The problem is the "right" commentator has been let go, and we are curently getting all the stories from the "other" side. Have you noticed that everything is coming from the same person? It's difficult to have a fair and balanced discussion, when the stories to be discussed are based in the left.
25Interesting thought, Grandpa.
"The problem is the "right" commentator has been let go, and we are curently getting all the stories from the "other" side."
I'm venturing a guess that this issue was a bit more complicated, and wasn't one of those liberal conspiracies. Not that you're implying that, but I'm just throwing that out there.
"So over the this is biased, this is why I don't post here, this is why I've been in hiding, this is why I whine all the time comments that seem to show up from the same people every other day after every other day."
tia!
26em, I always enjoy reading your thoughtful comments.
27Pretty sure McCain wishes he would have picked Romney. It would have been a strong ticket.
28And yes, Palin is very Nixonian. In more ways than one.
29janneth, my grandmother used to say "if wishes were horses, beggers would ride"
30Yes, wise woman.
31And that ladies and gentleman is why the Republicans lost this election! "I want Obama to succeed"??? Oh please...just join the Democrat party and have it done with. Take your daughter with you too.
32Hey, he has a right to his opinions. And I think it was honorable that he said he wanted Obama to succeed. It shows he has no ill will and just wants what's best for America.
