Hanging flower baskets and seasonal foliage sound like elements of a beautiful wedding setting. They're also part of Wal-Mart's lawn and garden department. One couple, Robert Vickrey and Crystal Newsome, decided that they might as well get married at Wal-Mart's in-store garden!
The newlyweds, who both work at Wal-Mart, didn't mind being in the store on their day off. Crystal, the deli manager, met Robert, the grocery department manager, on the job. They were also happy to share their special day with both family and co-workers.
Perhaps Wal-Mart will soon get into the wedding-hosting business. They already have plenty of aisles!

I am sure this was a classy affair
1I do kind of like the idea of getting married in a garden, and I guess the place does have some meaning... I'm thinking of this gorgeous garden store in my hometown and it actually would be a great place for a wedding ceremony... then a reception elsewhere!
2I'm not going to judge. A wedding is not a marriage, and economic times are tough.
3Good for them; I'd rather see people get married within their means than see them spend more than they can afford on an extravagant wedding. (Nothing against extravagant weddings if you can afford one!)
4Interesting choice. It's cool that they went a different route than most people. They also didn't break the bank on an huge ceremony.
5good points, spacekatgal and lilkimbo!
6i hope someone sends in their pics to peopleofwalmart.com
7i agree that low-budget and diy are the way to go, but walmart? they don't know ANYONE with a garden? (anyone that doesn't make billions of dollars exploiting the children and resources of impoverished nations, that is)
And when I clicked on the linked I was not surprised to see the Omaha newsite come up haha ! The first line is : "The bride wore dark lavender, the groom black jeans." hahahaa oh man.
I do hope they send the pics to peopleofwalmart.com - it soo true.
8Its easy to judge at first, but I myself am in the process of planning a wedding and its honestly ridiculous how much things cost! Maybe they have other things in their life that are more important to them, like buying a house or providing for their families. At times it does start to seem silly that I am spending so much money on one day so I honestly dont blame them for doing this!!!
9It does hold symbolism since they met there and employees can celebrate with them. It doesn't get an easier than one wedding invitation on the bulletin board in the brake room. I'm all for low key. My next marriage will be Elvis in Vegas or on a lighthouse.
10I can see why they wouldn't want to spend money on a big extravagant wedding...but seriously...they couldn't find someone with a nice backyard like Weffie said? Walmart just isn't ever going to seem nice...I just don't see any reason to have it at Walmart at all.
11Muirnea, for the majority of couples, I would agree, but I think it's different for them since they met through working at WalMart.
12I agree -- I think the couple made a choice that was right and good for them.
I also agree with Spacekatgal -- a wedding is not a marriage. Those are two separate issues.
13I like unique, creative, unconventional weddings. I don't particularly care for Wal-Mart, but it holds some significance for these individuals.
