Toxic Friends

Dear Sugar
I've got this friend who's driving me bananas. He constantly calls me but only when he needs something and when it's convenient for him. I live alone and since I am single, I feel like he's using me to fill some kind of a void until he meets someone. Don't get me wrong, we have a great time together, but lately he is so needy I can hardly breathe. I really love him dearly, and I don't know what's going on with him right now. He's the best guy friend I've ever had, but how can I tell him to chill out a little bit or I am going to blow on him and perhaps say things that will change our friendship forever? This is a terrific article on Toxic Friendships. Sometimes being a good friend means that you have to be honest. If this guy is offending you by testing your limits as a friend, how can you possibly enjoy spending time together? Explain to him that he's acting differently and provide him with examples of how you feel he's asking you for an unreasonable amount of your time. You will feel better. If he doesn't understand, how good of a friend can he really be?
