Superficial Solution? Pink Makeover For Mexico's Mail Crisis

Mexico thinks it has the answer to its late or lost mail woes: give the entire system a makeover in hot pink! Pink will paint the Mexico postal service's new logo, uniform, office walls inside and out, as well as coffee mugs and envelopes now on sale at the post office. One official explained: "We want to be very visible . . . in colors as brilliant, as vibrant as Mexico."

Pink doesn't solve everything, as there are many more problems to be addressed. The postal service, which delivers only seven pieces of mail per inhabitant each year, still needs high-speed Internet capable computers (pink or not) to replace manual typewriters now used by postal workers. There's also major mail theft in Mexico — but who knows, maybe the hot pink will scare the thieves away.

Mexico's government favors creative solutions to complicated problems. A while back Mexico City addressed sexual harassment on public transportation by chartering female-only bus routes. Do you think the pink postal makeover will change more than the image, and actually help get mail delivered?
