10 Good, Bad, and Ugly Spring Break Movie Flings

Since it was a movie — Where the Boys Are — that changed Spring break into what it is today, it's only fitting that we look at some of the best (and the worst) Spring break flings from flicks. And while that film was explicit for 1960, it's a far cry from the bare-chested and drug-filled modern take on the holiday, Spring Breakers. But both have one of the key elements to the season's beach party: sex. Spring break is eponymous with Spring flings, and we aren't talking sweet, forever love. More like quick, weeklong lust — not exactly a recipe for relationship success. So grab your bikini and a brewski for a look back at the most memorable onscreen sand-filled hookups! Source: MGM

Good: Girl Happy
Warner Bros.

Good: Girl Happy

The scene: Spring break at Fort Lauderdale, FL
The fling: Rusty (Elvis) is hired by a mobster to protect his daughter Val from "30,000 sex-starved boys" while she's at Spring break. Rusty ends up falling for the college student, but once she finds out he's been paid to spy on her a drunken brawl ensues that lands her in jail. Don't worry, though, Rusty saves the day (by dressing in drag!).

Bad: Where the Boys Are
Warner Bros.

Bad: Where the Boys Are

The scene: Spring break at Fort Lauderdale, FL

Bad: Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise
20th Century Studios

Bad: Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise

The scene: Spring break at Fort Lauderdale, FL
The fling: Lewis manages to catch the attention of hotel receptionist Sunny, and they have a pseudo-relationship going on in Nerds in Paradise. The only problem? His interest from the first flick, Betty, is nonexistent in this sequel, but then he marries her in the third one. I guess what happens in Fort Lauderdale, stays in Fort Lauderdale?

05
Bad: Spring Breakdown
Warner Bros.

Bad: Spring Breakdown

The scene: Spring break at South Padre Island
The fling: Thirtysomething Judi is engaged to William when she joins her girlfriends for Spring break. Hooking up with collegiate hottie Todd is technically "bad," but he may be a better choice than her obviously gay (and hilarious) fiancé.

06

Ugly: She's All That

The scene: Popular high schooler Taylor meets faded reality TV star Brock at Spring break.
The fling: Taylor dumps Zack, but the favor is returned with this zinger from Brock:

Brock Hudson: You didn't really think I'd leave for All-Star Road Rules and still be dating you? Oh, you did? That's so sweet.

Good: The Sure Thing
NBC

Good: The Sure Thing

The scene: Cross-country trip to California (Winter break, not Spring, but same idea)
The fling: College freshman Gib is trying to get to his bikini-clad hottie, "sure thing" Nicollette Sheridan, and uptight Alison is on her way to visit her boyfriend. Spoiler alert: this feuding couple is meant for each other!

Bad: Shag
Warner Bros.

Bad: Shag

The scene: Myrtle Beach Summer girls' trip for uptight and soon-to-be-married Carson
The fling: Carson meets Buzz on her last-fling-before-the-ring trip and, surprise, he's way better for her than her fiancé. Best pickup line:

Buzz: I'm Buzz Ravenal. Let's dance.
Carson: I'm sorry, I'm engaged.
Buzz: Well, I'm sorry you're engaged, too.

09
Bad: The Baby-Sitters Club
Columbia Pictures
