What's Your Favorite Smart Chick-Lit Novel?

Chick lit gets a bad rap. Yes, there are books with ridiculous plots and atrocious writing, but as author Michele Gorman points out that's true of any genre.

You never know when you're going to find quality writing slapped between a pink cover and purple font, so tell us your favorite chick-lit find and why.

I love Something Borrowed and Something Blue. Blue a little more, just because I love Ethan (even more now that I know John Krasinski is playing him in the movies!) and he has more of a role in Blue.

I love Kinsella, Giffin and Kristen Billerbeck. I trudged through the crap that was the Devil Wears Prada (I swear she didn't have an editor & I hated the 'heroine'--movie was tons better). Bushnell's books are pretty much the same with unlikable lead characters. Speaking of movies that are better than the books: Legally Blonde. Movie=adorable & book=high school style writing.

I am a Sophie Kinsella fanatic and I love Mary Kay Andrews. I can not finish a Candace Bushnell book I have tried many and not completed a single book

Just finished reading The Center of Everything-- I really liked it! All time favorite at this point is Eat Pray Love-- not sure if I'd classify that as chick lit, but I doubt many males would enjoy it, so... just putting it out there.

I love Candace Bushnell's books, & I enjoy Cecilia Ahern's books. Are we all expected to read serious books about wars all of the time? It's nice to read a book that makes you think once in a while, but chick lit is a fun, light genre to have fun with!

The closest thing to chick-lit I've ever read is The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Is that considered chick-lit? I quite liked it, whatever it is considered.

The Lace Makers of Glenmara by Heather Barbieri, Texas Hill Country Series by Lisa Wingate (fun!), My Heart May Be Broken But My Hair Still Looks Great by Dixie Cash, Sweet Dreams at the Goodnight Motel by Curtiss Matlock. I didn't care for Sophie Kinsella, her writing just seemed to go on and on without going anywhere. Never read Candice Bushnell.

Twenties Girl is my favorite book by Sophie Kinsella. Also My Best Friend's Girl by Dorothy Koomson is a great three hankie read.

Emily Giffin's books, all of them, they are all so good! also the Jessica Darling series, it follows her from high school to adulthood, its a favorite of mine. Jennifer Weiner's books are all good!

sophie kinsella. I don´t like Candance Bushnell and couldn´t finish The Devil wears Prada. I also like Marian Keyes.

Something Borrowed/Something Blue and Summer Sisters... They keep you intrigued in what will happen next, which is one of the main qualities I look for in the books I read.

I love chicklit and have many favorites, but I love Something Borrowed and Something Blue the most too, plus Emily Giffin's other books including the new one, Heart of the Matter (less so on Love the One You're With, but loved Baby Proof as well). I also love Sophie Kinsella and the Shopaholic books, but my fav of hers is Undomestic Goddess. And her books written by pseudonym Madeleine Wickham are less good, though I'm getting into Wedding Girl right now. I agree, Candice Bushnell is quite amazing, and then there's just other random books I love, including The Devil Wears Prada and Everyone Worth Knowing.

Well I like chick lit, bad rap or no. Sometimes all you want is a little entertaining fluff (I bought my very first chick lit after my very last final in college, having decided I deserved to be unabashedly indulgent and frivolous). That being said, I loved Something Borrowed. I also was surprised to enjoy The Little Lady Agency. I think with chick lit, it's just like chick flicks- the ones that you enjoy the most are the ones with the characters you root for the most.
