"I have been working with them since I was 15 years old, since I was a teenager. So for me they were my second family . . . I was very hurt by this, and I don't think it's good . . . when young women look at this picture, they're going to think it's normal to look like that, but it's not."
— Filippa Hamilton on The Today Show, about being fired by Ralph Lauren in April for her "inability to meet obligations with us." Apparently, those obligations involved transforming her 5'8", 120-pound, size 2 body into bobble-headed alien proportions. (They told her agency she was too big for their clothes. Hmmm. What does that make the women who might buy Ralph Lauren clothes?) My response to this nonsense? Bring back the healthy models!

Untold
This is that model they over-photoshopped and had to apologize for. So what - they're firing her b/c they "had" to do so much work to make her look "right"?
Is anyone else ready to just swear off Ralph Lauren forever?
1When I read about that ridiculous photoshopping, I hoped someone would get fired. Never in my life did I think it would be Filippa. This is outrageous.
2I swore off Ralph Lauren long ago - his diffusion lines weakened the brand to the point of tackiness. I mean, once you get past the weirdness of the bobble-head ad and actually look at the clothes the model was wearing (patchwork denim, anyone?), they're pretty bad.
On a side note, the girls in the "healthy models" montage are just as skinny as the models now. Also, there are healthy models who are currently famous - Marissa Miller comes to mind.
3Chloe, I hear ya, but I was thinking more about Chandra, Bridget, Fernanda. Some of the others are thin to really skinny, but no one strikes me as skeletal.
4Ok, I see your point, Tres. The first thing I noticed was Kristy Hume's teeny-tiny legs. And Ana Claudia looked thinner to me than many of today's models, but it could just be her posture. I'll agree that Bridget Hall has sort of a sporty, all-American vibe to her that you don't see much anymore.
5I rode him off when he made a statement something about not wanting Mexicans to wear his clothes.
6Too big?! C'mon, Ralph Lauren! Now you're just being ridiculous!!
7F.C.U.K ralph Laren, tacky clothes from a tacky man
8So, she got fired because she is too big?? I'm seriously asking. I don't understand.
9I thought she was a size 8? At least that's what I read in another news story.
10The evening news said she was 5'10" and 120 lbs. Not sure what size that would be but def not an 8. I'm 5'11" and 155 lbs and I'm a size 8. Not sure what info about her is correct. All I know is they she is even more beautiful on tv than in her photographs.
11Wow, Ralph Lauren is really disgusting. I won't buy his perfumes anymore after hearing this.
12No, there is no way she is a size 8 but I have read in other reports that she is a size 4. Either way, I agree with the outrage that she was let go because she's "too big" for the job. I'm all for unobtainable beauty gracing the covers of magazines, ha!, but I think the this is insane. She's gorgeous, like Brooke Shields in the 80's, and it's sad that she's still not perfect enough. I understand they're trying to sale and image but a Brats doll in ugly clothes is nothing I'm going to be interested in.
13Very disappointed in the Ralph Lauren label. If she's too big for their clothes, then I may as well fold up my tent as well.
14Wtf is wrong with these people???
15You're right, tlsgirl. There's no way she's a size 2, considering most of today's top supers are size 4's. People, a size 2 in high fashion is NOT the same as a size 2 at the Gap!
16I heard she was fired long before the Photoshopping incident. I has also guessed that, in the fashion world, models come and go like the wind. I think it might be a pretext for her to get publicity for more work from the incident.
Chloe Bella, you're totally right that a 2 in designer is not a 2 at the Gap. Most sizes have expanded over the years for vanity.
I don't really have a strong opinion here. Models get fired all the time. I'm not a huge Ralph Lauren fan anyway. It's too traditional and boring for my tastes.
17First of all, she size 4 not 2 and 5'10 not 5'8. According to Lauren's rep, she got fired because of breach of contract. I don't really know who to believe. According to her she always been this size then, why would they fired her now for being too fat if she always had the same size? That's what doesn't make sense to me. She wasn't fat then but it's now?
18i'm 5'10 and around 120 lbs, and i wear a size 2 or a 4- even in sample sizes- i work in a showroow so i've tried on samples. i'm not sickly thin like todays models, but one thing i have never been called in my life is fat! while i agree she is not as thin (aka anorexic) as many models, if she really can't fit samples then RL is making samples in 0 and 00. aka standards no woman who is model height should try to fit into
19There've been lots of different accounts of exactly how tall she is and what she weighs. Regardless, I think we can look at her and see that she is model thin. And looks relatively healthy, compared to the skeletal models out there.
20This is so disturbing, shame on RL.
