Say What? Rosie Thinks Same-Sex Divorce Is Different

"I'm not trying to say it's better, I just think it's a different paradigm. . . . Usually in relationships, the emotional connection is really the most intense (for women), so when they break up, I have found they stay connected. Every woman that I have ever been with, besides one, is still in my life."

— Rosie O'Donnell, who recently broke up with her longtime partner, told Oprah yesterday why she believes divorce between lesbians differs from heterosexual divorce. Does her logic make sense to you?

I find the anger towards this statement intriguing. For one she owns her statement by speaking to (her) experience. She doesn't say that there is no pain and hurt involved what she says is she and her respective partners got over that and stayed friends. Simple as that. If you didn't well then that's your experience. I just think that some one should not be judged for saying well I have found through my experience that this happens. IMO that should be fine because she's just sharing her experience. You can learn from it or you can get angry because yours didn't turn out that way. But just remember it's not a criticism or your experience it's simply a sharing of hers. Now before I'm accused of being a fan of Rossie I can't stand the women as far as I can throw her but just because I don't like her doesn't mean a good point isn't a good point.

That ridiculous comment just made a case for the Anti-Gay Marriage movement. You CAN'T have it both ways divorce is a divorce is a divorce! If you say that same sex love is love like any other and marriage is a union between two people who love each other then divorce and all that come along with it is also EQUAL. People are people and divorce can hurt, and be messy regardless who's doing it! UGH I can't stand that lady!

Hmm how do you take her quote: different as in men vs. women, or heterosexual vs. homosexual? Either way I disagree. I'm not a guy but all the guys I know have been marked by breakups and relationships - each story and person is different and some people share more than others, but I don't know anyone completely indifferent to a divorce/breakup. If it's the second option, every person I've dated still is a part of me and will probably always be. Very obnoxious of her to say that, actually.

Okay, different on an emotional level. I read the tittle and I was like what is she talking about. Well although she specifies woman's emotions I agree with her. As a gay man I too am friends with my two xbf's in fact there is still great love there. I don't look at them intimately anymore because the relationship has completely shifted gears.

Every man I've ever dated is still in my life to some extent. I also maintain (cautiously) friendships and acquaintanceships that others would have dropped. I think it's more just your personality. Some of us have more of a need to stay connected.

I don't agree at all.She's such a drama queen .............:oy: I'm with everyone else.It depends on the two people involved and how emotionally invested into the other person and the relationship they are. .I've also seen a few guys get pretty emotional when their relationship was over.

This doesn't make sense to me, either. I am a straight woman and I, too, am still connected with everyone I've ever dated. Some more so than others, but still. I really think it depends on the people involved.
