— Although he's staring in the upcoming movie Valentine's Day, Patrick Dempsey says he's not a fan of the cliché holiday. McDreamy's right — love is about more than buying the obvious gift. You just better start thinking if you want something magical to unfold! Oh shoot, it has to be spontaneous too. No pressure there at all.

My birthday is the 13th, so I've never really been big on Valentine's Day celebrations. I do think it's fun/cute for little kids to celebrate, though.

I am with you janneth! I think it is a lovely holiday to celebrate with a loved one, or friends, or even family! It doesn't have to be about getting or giving gifts, I just enjoy spending time with my man and being romantic!

I completely agree with him. I'd rather wake up spontaneously on June 24th or November 3 or March 8th with a big bunch of flowers in my face and a romantic day ahead of me. The romance that occurs on Valentine's Day seems to forced to me.

i totally agree. my boyfriend and i don't really celebrate v-day and we don't have an anniversary--neither of us remember when we started dating :P maybe if we get married, we'll have one

Eh, yeah. It's so contrived. I can't say I dislike Valentine's Day; I still love that there's, well, love in the air, but the box of chocolates and flowers stopped being cute after high school. But yess, everyday should be Valentine's Day. :)

We never celebrate it because our anniversary is on the 18th, but i like holidays and we usually make fun stuff for it. Just because its totally over marketed doesn't mean you have to write it off. I do like the kid aspect of it way more though. This year I'm going to make little gummies in heart shapes, and little felt hearts with arms and legs, should be fun.

I always thought that if you loved someone, you should tell them on a random Tuesday in April, or some night in September, or whenever it springs to mind .. not when Hallmark tells you you have to.And like lilegwene, having a birthday right after Valentine's Day (the 16th!) is a real drag.

Valentine's Day is just to get people to spend money. I wish more women would look at it like that, but everyone gets so mushy about it. I like the school aspect of it - kids giving valentines to one another. I always felt like it promoted friendships. Otherwise, I think it's silly. (Plus my birthday is February 15th, so I always have to wait a week to celebrate or all the restaurants are packed! :P )

I actually dislike Valentine's Day as well. In fact, I would rather get a gift on any other day of the year.
