"Women today are so skinny. If I did a love scene with them, I would crush them. If I did a love scene with Renee, I would kill her."
— 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin on why he's glad he doesn't get cast as the love interest in movies anymore. Baldwin was hosting Elle magazine's annual Women in Hollywood dinner and awards show and made these remarks after the famously svelte Zellweger was honored.

And he's fat, so there.

2Uh, yeah. Spacekat, you're just a little fat these days.
3I so agree with him! Another reason to love Alec
4I love him. He is so right.
5Right on Alec! He is so right.
And sadly young girls see it and think that being super skinny is healthy, and as most of us know that it is NOT.
6I was watching Beetlejuice last night. Alec used to be so skinny. Not Renee skinny, but still.
7I totally disagree. I can't think of a single actress in Hollywood who I would say is an unhealthy weight. Perhaps a few that are borderline, but they are the exception, not the rule.
I think the reverse is true, that obesity has become the norm in America, and that many people are very happy to promote it.
8they might not be "unhealthy" but they are darn sure not anything that anyone should be emulating.
9Are you kidding me? There are any number of women who are excellent fitness models. Jessica Alba springs to mind. Perhaps you and I have different standards of what we believe we can achieve.
10Space, I am just talking about some of them, not all of them. I didnt specify that, my bad.
11Hah I love Alex Baldwin. Renee is definitely slightly unattractive in my opinion because of how boney she looks, but I agree that some actresses a little on the unhealthy side. But the majority of them have trainers nutritionist person chefs etc so it is easier to stay slim than us "normal" women.
12I agree with Space actually. A lot of the times people will call out a girl who is "too skinny" but really she looks perfectly healthy. I think we make excuses for our obesity.
13if your clavicle bones cut me when i hug you? youre too skinny....talking to you renee z.
14Alec could be more fit, that is true.
15However most film and tv actresses are terribly unrealistic and unhealthy models for women. Besides working with the personal trainers, their look is achieved by the work they pay to have done on their body. Take off a bit here in the abdomen and thighs, add some in the chest and buttocks (and even lips).
I love when a guy says that. I'm sure it means a lot more to most women than if other (possibly not so skinny) women say it.
16i'm sure he said this jokingly but caterpillar is right. besides, using renee as an example if you look at her in her jerry maguire days compared to now, she looks like she could use atleast 10 pounds to be at a healthy weight. if on tv you look like a skeleton, in person wouldn't be any better.
17I agree that some actresses, Renee included, are too skinny.
I mean, last night, while watching Desperate Housewives, I couldn't pay attention to any of Bree's scenes because all I could think about was how, between her skeletal frame, and her over-botoxed face, Marcia Cross doesn't even look like a human being any more.
18I'm not saying that I don't agree with him, but it has become tiring to hear people saying "too thin!", "eat a burger!", etc etc., to practically every girl in Hollywood. Yeah, there are a few who are too thin, but most are just healthy.
Renee for example looks healthy to me. Maybe she would look better with a few more pounds on because she is so muscular, but that doesn't mean she isn't healthy.
19I agree with Space, I also believe that people are incredibly hypocritical in criticizing thin women. Criticizing someone for being naturally thin (and don't tell me that people are going to be accusing to an anorexic girl in the same manner) isn't going to resolve anything.
I suppose people think that they are combating health issues and the body issues women face by attacking thiness, but that's not the case.
Someone, who say, has an eating disorder in no way got that way because Renee Zellweger is thin or because they saw Kate Moss on the cover of a magazine.
I can say that it's annoying that men rate and rank women based on appearance. That made me feel bad once, for a second I wondered about my own looks. But the worst thing about that was that I was objectified by a man or witnessed men objectifying other women. However, that is different from becoming ill based on an image.
Dr. Hilda Birch stated that eating disorders were complex and could be linked to family dynamics as well as control issues. It's a psychological disorder and is more complex than a pretty girl on a billboard.
Anyhow, I just think making fun of someone for being skinny is just as hurtful as making fun of someone for being overweight. Somehow people have become confused about this and think it's noble to comment on thin women's bodies.
20I was watching Beeltejuice last night and thinking the same thing dannysf. lol.
21While Renee doesn't look so skinny in that picture to be too thin, it is refreshing to hear a guy say that skinny isn't always attractive.
Oh, and on Renee Zellweger. I don't know if she has a problem or not, she is a hardcore runner.
Let's say for sure she doesn't. Comparing her to Jerry Maguire days is not the best or most effective way to judge. It's possible that since then she has become MORE fit, not more sick.
22I agree sourcherry!
23Another thing, I don't want or need to hear a man validate a women (even if he is kidding) in this way.
Besides, a guy could say he isn't into "skinny chicks" but maybe he wants a specific body shape (hourglass, apple, pear) and curvy types or whatever.
That isn't good...that isn't any better. He could still be making another women feel bad about herself for not being like Kim Kardashian or something. And many men thinking the opposite of one thing can affect what is depicted in magazines and the media and you just end up swapping one image for the other.
It's not better or effective way to deal with anything.
As country we need to live in a more balanced way, eat better and exercise and accept all different body shapes. As long as your healthy it's should matter if your very think or slightly curvy as long as you meet other health markers and we lower obesity rates.
24I dont think these women have an eating disorder, I do however think they have issues exercise and body image.
25There are plenty of healthy women in Hollywood being called out on being "too skinny" and the reason for that is because in this country, we don't know what a healthy weight looks like because everyone is fat.
And I don't think women feel validated when a man says he doesn't like skinny chicks because I think it's generally known that men like their women with curves. If a girl wants to be thin, it's not to impress a guy because she knows they don't care that much.
Insulting thin women and putting overweight ones on pedestals. Great priorities we have.
26Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe Alec prefers women with some meat on their bones.
When did people become only skinny or obese? There is such a thing as average last time I checked. There are far more average people out there than obese or skinny.
27Can we stop referring to skinny and fat people as though some sort of grotesque alien lifeforms? I'm sick of these skinny vs fat debates.
28"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Maybe Alec prefers women with some meat on their bones."
He was married to Kim Basinger.
29there are a lot of too skinny starlets out there. but i really don't think that many of them are TOO skinny. the only ones that come to mind right now are LiLo and all the ladies on Desperate Housewives. there are def more, i just can't think of them at the moment.
i don't think renee is TOO skinny. but i do find her disgusting for other reasons.
30Really, Jessica Alba? Have you seen her lately? She looks like a stick again. IMO, she looked her best after her pregnancy when she was glowing and had curves, before she went and lost every ounce of fat off her body.
31I think that most men prefer women that aren't boney and with a bit of curves. Not obese and not anorexic, just healthy.
32Men. Like. Meat.
More Cushin' for the Pushin'.
You know what I mean
If I godforbig lose weight as I do when I'm stressed, my husband complains that my "bones" are poking him lmao. Maybe I'm just lucky but from my experience guys don't want bones.
Let's just put it this way... There's a saying in my culture that sums up my thoughts on this topic:
"Ni pas nece kosti"
=
"Not even a dog wants bones"
(Get it!?) hehehe I thought it was pretty cool... I get the cultural discrepancy of Give a Dog a Bone but I think ya'll get it.
33PS Sorry for any typos it's 2 am here.
Um at the posters who are saying people too obese blah blah... UM I don't think anyone is PROMOTING obesity... When I have children I am certain going to try to raise them to be fit and active and make good food choices. What the topic here is about is not promoting ED's or obesity because let's face it those are horrid things (having had an ED myself) but promoting HEALTH and again, let's face it, Hollywood Starlets aren't exactly the poster childs for HEALTH. So many are on freaking Adderall and such or even drugs just to be thin. Talk about exercise? Okay. So many starlets are just exercising away like CRAZY which is another form of ED that idk the name of. Anywho I think if you are NATURALLY skinny, more power to you. But let's not be kidding ourselves, its RARE that people are naturally skinny and oh, they just all happen to be actors? My Butt!
34I agree with Alec! If you think Renee looks healthy then IMO there is something wrong with your eyes. There is a difference between a healthy skinny weight (which a lot of actresses are) and the scary skinny (like Renee and Teri Hatcher). I especially hate it when the scary skinny ones try to claim that they are naturally that way, such BS.
35I agree with spacekatgal. Most of the women in Hollywood I think look great. Sure there are the exceptions on both sides of the scale - some that could stand to add a few lbs and some that could stand to lose a few lbs. But as a rule I think the majority of them look great.
36Thank you, hiding! Everytime someone is labeled as too skinny on here, someone comes up with the obesity thing. Just because you're saying Renee is too skinny doesn't mean you don't know what a healthy weight looks like. All these actresses pay way too much attention on exercise and diet. It's not healthy to be so focused on that. I am very healthy and I still got a little meat on my bones. Super skinny does not equal healthy.
Oh, and Renee is not naturally skinny! Someone who manages to gain weight as fast as she did for the Bridget Jones movies obviously has to pay close attention to her diet.
37Oh yay, I'm platinum!
