Gosling's character in 2007's Lars and the Real Girl had a social disability which made it hard for him to connect with women, especially a co-worker played by Kelli Garner. He instead developed a romantic relationship with a life-size sex doll. Garner's other credits include The Aviator, Thumbsucker, and the ABC television series Pan Am.
