Hunting Season: A Field Guide to Targeting and Capturing the Perfect Man by Elle uses the metaphor of the deer hunt to describe "dating season" which runs between April 1 and Sept. 30. It's partly in jest, so think of this more as a guide to helping you meet and date more men.
Important love lessons:
- Elle's number-one rule of hunting is "never hunt with a posse!" She explains, "If you go hunting with your girlfriends, what will you do? You will buy drinks for one another . . . You will talk to each other and scan the room together. You might fake-laugh loudly. You will, basically, be trying to draw attention to yourselves as a group. In doing so, you turn yourselves into prey. We never want to be prey."
- "You see an attractive buck and he smiles at you. What do most women do? Either they buy a drink (blaaaahhh! goes the buzzer! Wrong!) or they look away and giggle (please, ladies, don’t giggle) . . . When he looks at you, breathe and then give him a big smile. If you're close enough, just say, 'Hello,' or, better yet, 'Good evening.' Maintaining eye contact, offering a nice smile and introducing yourself are the best ice breakers."
