What Books Have You Read in One Day?

I haven't read many books in one sitting, but it's usually chick-lit and other breezy reads. My claim to fast-reading fame is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, which I read on a July day before my sophomore year of high school. I started around 10 a.m. and finished at 3 a.m., breaking only to eat and go to the bathroom.

Whenever I do it, it's usually one of the most satisfying days ever. Since Monday is not only Labor Day but also Read a Book Day, I thought I'd round up books that could be read in a day. What books have you speed-read through?

I read World War Z by Max Brooks in less than a day! It's still one of my all time favs, too!

Sabriel and Lirael by Garth Nix, both in a day.

I read Twilight in one day...Breaking Dawn in 2 days. Pretty easy dialogue to get through, the two middle books had more detail entrenched in them, so it took longer...IMO

Damn...I thought I was fast when I finished Deathly Hallows in 2 days but apprently not lol. POISON STUDY by Maria Snyder was fantastic and I read it in one night! For anyone who likes fantasy, mixed with some romance...read it! Its fabulous, and has 2 sequals that are equally as good!

A lot of Hemingway and H.G. Wells books are pleasantly short.

Breaking Dawn took me about 20 hours to read, yes i only got four hours of sleep that day...

I'm the same as amber512. I generally only read before bed. It takes me about a week to get through a good book (if I don't alternate it with other reading). But I recommend "A Dirty Job" by Christopher Moore. He's hillarious!

I tend to read paperbacks that are about 500-700 pages and they usually take me about a week. I only really read before bed.

THE FLAVIA DE LUCE MYSTERIES! fantastic books! The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie had me laughing out loud at the beach this summer! My friend had to drag me into the sea!

Sadly (as in I hate admitting it), the Twilight books were quick reads, as well as "The DaVinci Code". More recently though, "The Hunger Games" series and Stieg Larsson's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." And I'm always a sucker for Jodi Picoult books; I just fly through pages =)

Atonement. Literally couldn't put it down once I got started. I was on a long flight and thought I'd read a little, watch a movie, take a nap... and ended up reading for 12 hours straight. Didn't help with the jetlag, but it was a great flight. :-)

Onlysourcherry, I definitely did find it overly repetitive! In the spirit of full disclosure, I almost had to read that one in a day because I had chosen it for a report (stupid on my part) and I wanted to give myself two days to write the report, so I wouldn't let myself do anything else that day until I finished the book!

@onlysourcherry; I don't think I ever finished Altas Shrugged; it drove me up the wall with repeating everything! I can finish most chick-lit in a day but also enjoyed all the Janet Evanovich and Sue Grafton novels in about a day.

lilkimbo I'm seriously impressed you read atlas shrugged in one day. Didn't the repetition drive you nuts? I read it over the course of like two months and I was like "omg ayn, I get it! You can stop repeating your point!"

I've always been a really fast reader, as well. I generally read chick lit books in a day. I think my most impressive one day read (in terms of length) is Atlas Shrugged. Pretty much all I did that day was read that book!

I can read most books in about a day, if I'm not busy with other things. It's a better question to ask which I *haven't* ... Lord of the Rings takes me around 2-3 days to read. I've always been a speed reader, though. =]

harry potter and the goblet of fire and breaking dawn (twilight) are probably the longest books i've ever finished in one day. i'm a pretty fast reader, so i've finished numerous novels (like the southern vampire/sookie stackhouse books) in a sitting .
