Some people keep their political opinions to themselves and others choose to put them on a license plate.
After vanity license plates became a popular form of pro-life activism, pro-choice advocates in Virginia are rolling out their own version. The plate is pretty basic — it simply reads: "Trust Women. Respect Choice." The proceeds benefit Virginia's Planned Parenthood affiliates and will be spent on pregnancy prevention services, not abortion. Sounds like a reasonable compromise to me.
While it seems fair for the state to let both sides of the debate have access to car bumpers, I'm not sure debates about women's reproductive rights are best left to license plate battles. What do you think?

although i'm pro-choice, i hate political license plates.
1wow, usa...land of the weird
2I love it. I really dislike anti-choice license plates because it's like that political point of view is endorsed by the state. This brings balance to that, which is fine.
3Love. There have been anti-abortion license plates for years, so this balances it out some.
4i'm with snarky, i don't like political signs of any kind, i could care less what your opinion on abortion is, in the end i have to make decisions for myself.
5Doesn't seem appropriate for either side of the debate to have a state license plate.
6Tres - I think you mean it simply reads "Trust women Respect CHOICE" your wrote "Trust women Respect LIFE" I love this license plate in fact I live in VA and want to get one. I ALWAYS see anti-choice propaganda on cars all over the place and its really irritating. Finally our side can state our opinion publicly for all the anti-choicers to see.
7I'm undecided about abortion but I think that expressing how you feel about it through your license plate is a lac of respect to the subject.
8ilike u
9I wouldn't buy one myself, but..why not?
10I wouldn't want my car vandalized by some moron, so I wouldn't get it. But I don't see anything wrong with it.
11That's my feeling, jennibean!
I am firmly pro choice, but don't choose to put it on my car. Glad others have the 'choice' (HA!) though.
12Yea I'm with Jenni-bean. I wouldn't get one but i hate the anti-choice bumper stickers even more.
13clareberrys she was referring to the pro-life version
14Are licence plates the best place to express these views? I'm totally pro-choice, so I don't have a problem with the licence plates, but I don't think I would personally get one. my biggest concern is whether it would incite vandalism. Some of the anti-choice activists can get fairly violent.
15violent anti-choice activists - isn't that an oxymoron?
16Although I'm pro-choice, I don't like advertising my beliefs on my car. There's a time and place to discuss deep issues, and I don't think driving down the highway is one of them haha. I don't care if other people do though, I just don't like using my car as a political or social forum.
17I think these plates are DANGEROUS.
18States have so many different license plates, how on earth are you supposed to ID a tag for a police officer? With license plate covers, it's virtually impossible to see the plate as it is. A rainbow of colors doesn't help.
I think they should do away with these specialty license plates and standardize license plate styles.
ive read it and re-read it and I'm pretty sure she is referring to the proCHOICE version Tres says "pro-choice advocates in Virginia are rolling out their own version. The plate is pretty basic — it simply reads: "Trust Women. Respect Life."" THe pro CHOICE version reads Trust Women Respect Choice just as it is shown in the picture. the pro LIFE version is probably Trust Women Respect Life, but I think she got her wording wrong on this one!
19Pro-choice.
Would rather see bumper stickers. No licence plates for either side.
20Pennsylvania, Hawaii and Montana already have pro-choice plates available. The VA pro-life version just reads, 'Choose Life.'
Bumper stickers are one thing, plates though? I'll say damn near anything to someone's face (or wear it on a t-shirt), but just leaving it on your car? No way. I agree, that's just asking for vandalism.
I am pro-choice, but I am also anti-laziness. You're not changing the world with a few words on the back of your bumper. Get out, volunteer, vote, protest and campaign. Make your opinion more than just some $35 slogan.
Dootsie, I agree that they should standardize license plate styles, not to make it easier for cops but just for the sake of not-being-stupid.
21I am pro life but I am definitely for funding programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies (in my opinion, this is the only way to stop abortions). So I am for this
22you know nothing says "choice" like a license plate......
23Some people feel more strongly about this than others. We each have our own causes that are close to our hearts. I say, if there are individuals who feel this strongly and want to get this license plate, more power to them. If the pro-life movement have their own plate, why not the pro-choice movement?
I'd rather see a specialty plate than a custom licenseplate that takes me 5 minutes to try and figure out what the hell they are saying. (My favorite - my friend snapped a photo of a license plate in New Jersey that says KumTkr.) Now that's classy!
24While I'm pro-choice, I think that I'd be worried about someone vandalizing my car.
Caterpillargirl, that is hilarious!
25I said leave it only because I don't think either way need to be broadcasted. But whatev'
