Three wanna be American Idols will go on national TV tonight, trying to impress Americans in an attempt to get the most votes. I'm not talking talented singers, but rather the final three presidential candidates. I wonder if Ryan Seacrest is available to host Democratic debate #537?
Hillary Clinton, John McCain, and Barack Obama will appear on tonight's "Idol Gives Back" special, in a blatant attempt to look cool, I mean, raise money for charity. Are you excited to see the candidates at a fund raiser with Victoria and David Beckham, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Alicia Keys, Celine Dion . . . ? Oh, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will be there, too.
But it turns out that the American Idol charity might not be "giving back" all it claims to be. To see the case of the missing millions, read more.
The charity has yet to specify where it spent the $76 million raised last year.
In fact, some $5 million remains undistributed. Dr. Irwin Redlener, the president and a co-founder (with the musician Paul Simon) of the Children’s Health Fund says, “sometimes celebrity or entertainment industry-based charities might not be the most sophisticated organizations in distributing the money they raise.”
What inspires you to give to charity — knowing the funds are well managed? The fact that your favorite politician and/or celebrity gets behind it?
Will you be tuning in tonight at 7:30-10:00 p.m. EDT/PDT?

Radley
"sometimes celebrity or entertainment industry-based charities might not be the most sophisticated organizations in distributing the money they raise.” Fox is plenty sophisticated, it's not as if they're letting Paula Abdul handle the money.
1LOL steph. I am pretty sure there is some money lost in translation, but one source is not the best reporting... shame shame.
2They better know where my $3000.00 went or is going my lawfirm all pitched in to donate all this money
3Wow I never once considered Fox to be sophisticated...always seemed the sleaziest of all the basic channels to me. Biased news, crappy lewd shows, not my cup 'o tea.
4Berlin, of course it isn't your cup of tea. The "regular" news channels have been bending over to seem more leftist, and whe a channel comes along and actually tries to be "fair and balanced", it appears to be far right.
As for the money lost, it's very difficult to keep track when trying to get celebs to make "pro bono" appearances. I have a distinct feeling that the vast majority of the lost 76 million will appear in the celebrities' bank accounts.
5I wish Idol could "give back" all that time I spent watching Sunjaya.
