President Obama offered the prayers of the nation last night in Newtown, CT, where the community mourned the deaths of children and teachers from Sandy Hook Elementary. In addition to sharing the grief he felt as a father himself, President Obama did not shy away from saying he would do what he can as president to stop future mass shootings, declaring: "If there is even one step we can take to save another child, or another parent, or another town, from the grief that has visited Tucson, and Aurora, and Oak Creek, and Newtown, and communities from Columbine to Blacksburg before — then surely we have an obligation to try." The president said he "will use whatever power this office holds" to prevent future tragedies, and he might have some help from other lawmakers. Democrats in Congress are already asking for laws to ban assault weapons, and there have been calls for a national commission to look into mass shootings. Watch the clip from the president's speech at the memorial and weigh in: do you think this horrific massacre will spark a debate in the US?
