President Obama Makes Surprise Visit to Iraq

President Obama has made an unannounced stop in Baghdad. The secrecy, not to mention a car bomb that exploded in Baghdad only hours before Obama arrived, indicates that Iraq still has a long way to go.

Before the president arrived, the military shut down Baghdad International Airport and cleared roads into the city. While in Baghdad, Obama will talk with US troops and Iraq leaders.

According to the White House spokesman, after spending time in neighboring Turkey, Obama concluded that the Americans troops in Iraq were equally deserving of his attention and appreciation.

My sister-in-law is currently in Balad. Whenever they have major happenings coming up in the country, they put a lock on communication, and my family won't hear from her for about a week. My brother was talking to her the day before President Obama's stop. Therefore, I believe that it was indeed a last minute decision to include a stop in Baghdad on this over seas trip.

Haus, I'd go to your theater! It doesn't sound mean, it sounds sensible! :) I hate when people come in late to movies, so could you make a rule about that, too?

I'm with steph, I can handle some tardiness except for going to movies. My thing is that I HATE having to climb over people in order to get a good seat. I'm always terrified I'll step on some feet or trip or hit someone's head with my butt since I can't see anything. So I'm always in the theater when the lights go down, seated comfortably. :)

I hate being the person that makes everyone get up after they're all settled in so I can get to a free seat...I don't go to the movies much anymore because I'm easily annoyed and I can't stand the people talking or the people who bring their 5 year old to Apocalypto (no joke, this happened to me).... some people even bring their newborns! Cmon people! Sometimes I want to start a theater where no one under 17 gets into a rated R movie ever and no children under 12 are allowed to anything except matinees. It makes me sound like a meanie, I'm really not, but movies are expensive! :)So I just don't go often. :)

The previews usually aren't even that good, but for some reason, it bugs me if I'm not there when the lights go out. I almost envy people who can casually stroll in. Almost.

ha steph! our dads are alike! my dad still wears a suit everywhere, very old school, he'd wear a suit to McDonalds! :)re: timeliness being more important to the business folks, i can see what you mean there. its a pet peeve of mine but i understand not everyone cares.as for the movie, you hate to miss previews?? i cant stand the people who show up late intentionally to miss previews! i feel like i paid too much already, i want to take up that seat for as long as i can get! :)

My dad wore suit coats to everything - even sporting events. I don't recall ever seeing him in a plain casual jacket, or even going out in a polo shirt.

I think business oriented people value punctuality more than other types. Reporters can press others when they're on deadline, but most of the ones I've known tend to run late and push everything until the last minute. For myself, I can handle tardiness for anything but a movie.
