As debate season heats up, there will be more chances for ordinary citizens to steer the debate. Right now, you can submit your questions on Politico.com for the January 30th (Republican) and January 31st (Democratic) debates.
Both the Democrats and Republicans participated in a CNN/Youtube Debate this primary season. The creative videos were punchy, but CNN's final say over whose questions made the cut impacted the conversation in a pretty big way.
Do publicly generated questions improve a debate?

I think it doesn't matter. The network would choose the people and the questions, so it woudn't make much of a difference.
1It does matter but your right the networks and PC police would screen out any tough or controversial people and or questions.

3i think that there's some merit in having real people ask the questions, but it's not like they are questions that the candidates aren't already thinking about. i think that if we just leave it up to the moderator to ask the questions - then it's the best thing. the issues are the issues....
4yeah, the network will choose.
5if we all got our questions answered, i would know what each candidate's favorite pet was, but that isn't going to happen.
