Poll: Political Persuasion

For some of us, our political party is a major part of our identity. Others don't vote based on party affiliation, instead making a decision based on attitudes about the individual candidate or timely issues.

I am a libertarian who will vote for whoever I feel has the best interests of Americans at hand (and heart).

I registered democrat just so I could vote in their primaries. Other than that I try to vote based on the people/issues, not the party.

i want to vote for the candidate who is honest, whose employees would speak highly of. I want someone who keeps their promises to the best of their ability, doesn't pander, is faithful to their spouse as well. And if they say they are a Christian and plan on using that to get votes, I'd like to know that they actually belong to A particular church...as in the people of that congregation know him or her and can vouch for seeing their butt in a pew more than once during campaign season! that makes me the most angry. i feel that's dishonorable to the people who get up early every sunday when they could sleep in, get dressed, and participate in their community worship, bake sales, etc. I don't, but I would deserve a good kick in the butt if I made it sound like I did!

I'm not registered to any party either. This two party system frustrates me. I imagine many third party candidates over the years held the best qualifications for the job, but were passed over because voters didn't want to "give their votes away."

I am a registered Democrat since I began voting 18 years ago but I do not vote party lines. I've been considering switching registration to Independent or Green Parties, but it truly doesn't matter since I vote for the candidate that best represents my position not the party candidate. I was hoping for a long time that Arlen Specter would run but then then became ill. I would have voted for him for President in a heartbeat.If I was a Brit I know I'd in the Labour Party leaning toward Centralist.

When I registered to vote years ago, I registered independent because I don't vote on a party basis I vote for the candidates and the issues that matter to me most. Right now I'm a registered Republican because in my state, UT, we have closed primaries and I need to be a Republican for a day so that I can vote for Ron Paul in the primary on Super Tuesday. :D Go Constitutional rights! Go Ron Paul!

I am a registered Green because I do hold values that are similar to party ideas. I am pretty pragmatic though and will not vote along party lines just because someone is a Green candidate.

Remedios, it really disappoints me that, that is what people think of the Republican party (not that I blame you). Because that is NOT what it is suppose to stand for. If we had true Conservative Republican's you would have a totally different view.

I'm a Democrat and usually vote for Dems, they're the way to go in my area, but I could certainly vote for an independent (and perhaps even a Repub... ) if the candidate were to represent my views particularly well...

Oh and esk4, I totally agreeI'm very disappointed in Bush and think he gives Republicans a bad name. People my age aren't completely cought up in politics just yet as this will be my, and many of my friends, first time voting...So even though I've taken the initiative to look into this stuff, a lot of my friends are still brainwashed by what their parents thought about politics when they were growing up..so they say stuff like "WTF you're voting republican? thats sad. But it's not them saying it, its their parents. It's unfortunate that a lot of people my age (18,19,20,21) still havent begun to get into politics. If they understood what was going on more they would see that Republicans aren't to blame for anything..it's Bush. Period.
