Talk about an urban oasis. New Yorkers cool off in portable "dumpster pools" parked on Park Avenue this Summer. "Dumpster pool" may not sound refreshing at first, but these are no ordinary dumpsters; clearly, they've been cleaned and transformed beyond recognition. The city is recycling old dumpsters to turn them into public pools on Saturdays, when Park Avenue closes to car traffic. So it's eco-friendly and invigorating at the same time. These certainly look refreshing and fun, and you'd never know they were dumpsters. I guess theoretically I would swim in one (I wouldn't be grossed out by the dumpster aspect if that's what you're asking) but I don't really care to swim and have ample opportunity to do so at my cottage anyway, so I probably wouldn't go out of my way to do this in NYC downtown or anything. But if I was a Park Ave resident with no other option, then sure. I went to a pool similar to this in Rome on an insanely hot August day a few years ago and it was unbelievably refreshing and the best 20 euros I've ever spent.
